deceit, and concealing <strong>the</strong> truth—think that establishing societies, transforming souls,<br />

personalities, and hearts, and building spirits and polishing <strong>the</strong>m is accomplished with such<br />

ease and so little sacrifice!<br />

The aid <strong>of</strong> God <strong>will</strong> not be sent down until after long trials and intense tests: ‘Or do you<br />

suppose you should enter Paradise without <strong>the</strong>re had come upon you <strong>the</strong> like <strong>of</strong> those who<br />

<strong>pass</strong>ed away before you? They were afflicted by misery and hardship and were so convulsed,<br />

that <strong>the</strong> Messenger and those who believed with him said, ‘When comes God's help?’ Ah,<br />

but surely God's help is nigh.’ (Qur'an 2:214) Those who wait behind <strong>the</strong>ir desks for <strong>the</strong> aid<br />

to descend upon <strong>the</strong>m while <strong>the</strong>y are sitting upon <strong>the</strong>ir chairs do not understand <strong>the</strong> Sunna<br />

<strong>of</strong> God regarding societies or His law regarding missionary activities.<br />

One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> missionaries said to me: I have stayed in an <strong>of</strong>fice two years with ano<strong>the</strong>r<br />

employee who was not aware <strong>of</strong> my views <strong>through</strong>out that time. I said: Therefore, for two<br />

years you did not speak a single word <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> truth <strong>which</strong> you carry in your heart!<br />

Do you think that if Companions had done as many <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> secret missionaries do today that<br />

Islam would have gone beyond <strong>the</strong> borders <strong>of</strong> Mecca?!<br />

What if Bilal had remained quiet and Yasir and Sumiyya [two Muslim martyrs in <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong><br />

Muhammad] had acted fraudulently and `Uthman Maz`un had seemingly surrendered and<br />

Abu Bakr had accepted <strong>the</strong> precondition <strong>of</strong> Ibn al-Daghna—who gave sanctuary to Abu<br />

Bakr—to not raise his voice in (reciting) <strong>the</strong> Qur'an because his voice had an influence over<br />

<strong>the</strong> sons <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Quraysh tribe? If those people had been silent in <strong>the</strong> face <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> oppression
