first century, <strong>the</strong> occurrence <strong>of</strong> this fitna is more intense. If God intends goodness for His<br />

servant, He keeps him away from it and helps him to associate with <strong>the</strong> imams <strong>of</strong> guidance,<br />

those who are arising until <strong>the</strong> Day <strong>of</strong> Judgment to defend <strong>the</strong> community against <strong>the</strong><br />

interpretations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> liars and <strong>the</strong> distortions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> extremists. They are those who are<br />

steadfast under <strong>the</strong> banner <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Book and <strong>the</strong> Sunna, possessing <strong>the</strong> understanding <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

noble Companions and those who follow <strong>the</strong>m in <strong>the</strong> performance <strong>of</strong> good deeds.<br />

Sharia and predestined laws are connected with <strong>the</strong> expressions that are found in <strong>the</strong> Book<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Sunna. If someone corrupts <strong>the</strong>se great expressions, it follows that <strong>the</strong> sharia laws<br />

are understood improperly. At this point, <strong>the</strong> fitna <strong>which</strong> <strong>the</strong> Messenger <strong>of</strong> God (peace and<br />

blessings be upon him) feared comes to <strong>pass</strong> for <strong>the</strong> Umma, <strong>which</strong> is greater than <strong>the</strong> fitna<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Antichrist.<br />

In this article I <strong>will</strong> talk about two <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>most</strong> important forms this fitna assumes. Shaykh<br />

`Umar Mahmud Abu `Umar—may God release him from his captivity—alluded to <strong>the</strong>m in<br />

his study <strong>which</strong> was published on <strong>the</strong> Internet. I <strong>will</strong> expand on it by mentioning an<br />

important example <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> second kind.<br />

The first kind is <strong>the</strong> refusal <strong>of</strong> some <strong>of</strong> those who lead <strong>the</strong> youth to deal with <strong>the</strong> reality <strong>of</strong><br />

sharia rule and clear sharia expressions. The resort to using phrases and high-sounding<br />

expressions and <strong>the</strong>y expand <strong>the</strong>m like a cloak <strong>which</strong> ei<strong>the</strong>r a fat or skinny person can wear.<br />

When a problem, crisis, or situation happens that requires jihad or an action, some go to one<br />

<strong>of</strong> those shaykhs and he responds by using <strong>the</strong>se elastic phrases in order to conceal his<br />

ignorance or his cowardice or so that he <strong>will</strong> not be held responsible or referred back to
