l <strong>Waterway</strong> <strong>Panorama</strong> Bulk liquids The private terminal (PT) Almirante Barroso (SP) has once again led the ranking of the top 10 ports handling bulk liquids in Brazil. Between July 2008 and June 2009, the movement at this PT was 48,229,268 tonnes or 25.4% of the national volume of 189,730,362 tonnes, which was 13.4% higher compared to the previous period, when the total movement in the country was 167,319,008 tonnes. Still, movement at the PT decreased 2.4% over the previous period, when the movement was 49,442,767 tonnes. There was also a drop of 4 percentage points in the relative share of the terminal in Brazil movement, which was 29.5% between July 2007 and June 2008. Secondly, the PT Admiral Maximiano Fonseca (RJ) handled 29,939,659 tonnes of bulk liquids or 15.8% of the total volume, representing a decrease below 1% in the total volume handled over the previous period (30,284,959 tonnes), although it provided a decrease of 2.3 percentage points in the relative share of the terminal in the national movement. The PT Madre de Deus (BA) was third between July 2008 and June 2009, when it handled 19,307,515 tonnes or 10.2% of the total volume. Private terminals operated by Petrobras Transporte S.A. (Transpetro) therefore occupied in the first three positions. Transpetro also owns PTs Almirante Soares Dutra (Brazil), in fifth place, Almirante Tamandaré (RJ), in sixth, São Francisco do Sul (SC), in seventh, and Manaus, in ninth, which handled, respectively, 11,256,674 tonnes or almost 6%, 10,529,005 tonnes or 5.55%, 9,397,971 or nearly 5% and 5,612,149 tonnes or 2.96% of the bulk liquid movement in Brazil. These results reflect increases of 7.7%, 6%, 5.6% and 27%, respectively, over the previous period, when bulk liquid movement in these ports was 10,419,330 tonnes, 7,849,382 tonnes, 8,950,208 tonnes, and 4,420,153 tonnes, respectively. In total, the seven Transpetro terminals accounted for 70.8% of the national bulk liquid movement between July 2008 and June 2009. The eighth and tenth positions were occupied by the port of Itaqui (MA) and the port of Suape (PE), which handled 5,705,411 tonnes (3.01%) and 3,840,666 tonnes (2.02%) in bulk liquids, in that order. The PTs handed 78.78% of the volume of bulk liquid between July 2008 and June 2009. In absolute terms, the bulk liquid movement in the PTs was 149,473,828 tonnes. The second position was occupied by the PT Tubarão (ES), with 82,173,190 tonnes (23.9% of the total volume), representing a 21.9% decrease over the previous period, when the terminal handled 105,181,391 tonnes. The MBR terminal (RJ) was third, handling 36,647,379 tonnes in bulk solids in the period, representing 10.6% of the national volume. In the fourth position, the port of Santos (SP) moved 31,937,108 tonnes or 9.3% of the total volume. The first four places accounted for almost 70% of the Brazilian bulk solid movement between July 2008 and June 2009.
