b. developing a trial version of RBG Melbourne’s<br />

Marginalised Schools Social Inclusion Program<br />

for RBG Cranbourne with funding from the<br />

Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation, and<br />

c. providing follow-up visits to five regional schools<br />

participating in the Rare and Threatened Species<br />

education program.<br />

b. The RBG Cranbourne Public Programs and<br />

Development branches worked together to<br />

develop a trial version of the MSSIP for RBG<br />

Cranbourne, again with funding from the LMCF.<br />

The program design and content was completed,<br />

along with criteria for the selection of schools to<br />

be targeted for participation in the pilot program.<br />

Initial communications established strong interest<br />

in the program among teaching staff and student<br />

groups, with three schools so far accepting the<br />

invitation to participate in the program at RBG<br />

Cranbourne. Trial visits are expected to<br />

commence in late <strong>2011</strong>, once times can be<br />

confirmed within busy school schedules.<br />

c. Education and Horticulture staff from RBG<br />

Melbourne completed follow-up visits to four of<br />

the five regional schools which participated in the<br />

Rare and Threatened Species education program.<br />

The team visited students at Two River College in<br />

Mildura, Beechworth Secondary College,<br />

Damascus College in Ballarat, and Camperdown<br />

College. Due to illness and time constraints for the<br />

school, Nagle College in Bairnsdale was unable<br />

to participate in the follow-up visits, but was<br />

provided with support over the phone and via<br />

email. A total of 82 students, 11 teachers and<br />

ten communities participated in the visits.<br />

Specific Outcome 6<br />

(Relating to Corporate Plan Action 4)<br />

Continue to make a significant contribution to the<br />

development and improvement of home gardening<br />

practices through programs which focus on efficient<br />

water usage, sustainable resource management<br />

and climate change by:<br />

a. developing the Visitor Programs for the Australian<br />

Garden Stage 2,and<br />

Public programs at both sites continued to promote<br />

sustainable gardening practices:<br />

a. The Public Programs branch at RBG Cranbourne<br />

worked on the delivery of the Information,<br />

Interpretation, Art and Education plan for the<br />

Australian Garden Stage 2. To date, 90 per cent<br />

of the signage for Stage 2 has been completed.<br />

Programs for the How To Garden, which will focus<br />

on home gardening and water usage,<br />

are currently in development.<br />
