and the RBG Melbourne Nursery<br />

e. delivering a range of interpretive initiatives related<br />

to Working Wetlands Part A. This includes the<br />

development of factsheets, interpretive signage,<br />

podcast and web content<br />

f. replacing the weather-worn interpretive signs<br />

for the Water Conservation Garden, the Southern<br />

China Collection, the Species Rose Collection<br />

and the Weather Station, and<br />

d. The Behind the Scenes education program<br />

content was updated in collaboration with the<br />

Plant Sciences and Biodiversity Division and RBG<br />

Melbourne Nursery staff. The Herbarium element<br />

of the program was updated with the latest<br />

statistics and resources available, details about<br />

the specimens used, and the inclusion of notes<br />

for the Herbarium Discovery Walk. In addition,<br />

notes were developed for the Nursery component<br />

of the program, for use when Nursery staff are<br />

unavailable to deliver programs and as a way of<br />

managing unusually high demands on their time.<br />

e. In addition to a range of communication and<br />

interpretation activities (including a blog, factsheets,<br />

and on-site signage, as outlined in Specific Outcome<br />

2g), ongoing engagement was conducted with<br />

internal stakeholders including Friends’ groups,<br />

Plant Craft Cottage, staff and volunteers at RBG<br />

Melbourne and external stakeholders such as the<br />

City of Melbourne, Government House and the<br />

Shrine of Reme<strong>mb</strong>rance.<br />

f. The original signs for the Water Conservation<br />

Garden and the Southern China Collection were<br />

updated and replaced. Where necessary, signs<br />

were updated with information intended to engage<br />

visitors’ interest in both the natural and cultural<br />

features of RBG Melbourne.<br />

New interpretation signs for the Species Rose<br />

Collection were postponed pending the outcome<br />

of a review of the Interpretation Strategy for RBG<br />

Melbourne. This review is due to be completed in<br />

Dece<strong>mb</strong>er <strong>2011</strong>.<br />

A nu<strong>mb</strong>er of plant labels for both RBG Melbourne<br />

and RBG Cranbourne collections were checked<br />

by staff from the Plant Sciences branch. This<br />

involved authenticating the names of plants and<br />

confirming their geographic distributions using<br />

data from Australia’s Virtual Herbarium (AVH).<br />

g. replacing up to 1,000 plant labels at RBG<br />

Melbourne. This includes ensuring the labels<br />

are taxonomically correct.<br />

g. A total of 925 taxonomically correct replacement<br />

plant labels was produced and reinstated with<br />

the help of a grant from the Friends of RBG<br />

Melbourne. A further 600 plant labels have since<br />

been produced and placed in RBG Melbourne.<br />
