Management Comments
The Committee endorsement of Option 3 results in a larger scale high pedestrian area and
therefore requires more signs, line marking, pavement patches and physical works (and
thereby cost) than the staff recommendation of Option 1
However as RMS have provided funds to develop the submission (including necessary site
survey and designs), and will potentially fund the works that Council provide in any submission
made, the Committee recommendation of Option 3 is supported at this time
As such the concepts now attached are an update to those provided to the Committee and will
be the basis of consultation subject to Council endorsement
COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the Local Traffic Committee advice in regard the proposal for a 40 km per
hour High Pedestrian Activity Area including that:

1. on Byron Street, Bangalow, the scheme apply the east side of the Lismore and
Granuaille Road roundabout to the Byron Street and Station Street intersection, noting
that all treatments be developed at grade
2. within Brunswick Heads, Option 3 be supported which would encompass the town
centre as bounded by Fingal Street, The Terrace, Mullumbimbi Street and Park Street.

1. That on the basis of Council acceptance of the Local Traffic Committee advice, staff
continue to develop concepts and design for the purpose of undertaking broader
community consultation which, along with cost estimates, be reported back to Council
in due course.
2. That as need be Council staff
a) report this matter back to RMS and the Local Traffic Committee;
b) lodge a funding submission with the RMS.

12. Late Item – changes to bus zone, Ocean Shores Public School, Shara Boulevard

The Committee reviewed the information provided as follows.
The Principal has advised of problems associated with the school bus zone and also seeks the
establishment of a children’s crossing. Both issues are depicted and were inspected on-site.

Parents often use the long (50m) bus zone to drop off and pick up children. By doing so bus
movement and access to/from the bus zone is impeded and can create traffic queues.
While this is a matter of enforcement and increases risk to safety, the Principal has also advised
that the length of the bus zone is more than required and suggests it be reduced to accommodate
two buses (the maximum at any one time and verified by bus drivers at the on-site inspection) and
