Council has recently received advice from the OEH that it requires three (3) Byron Shire Council
nominees for the Byron Coast Area Management Committee and the Arakwal National Park
Management Committee. The names of all nominees will be referred to the Minister for the
Environment for determination of the appointment of a council representative to these Committees.
Council on 27 September 2012 endorsed Cr Rose Wanchap as Council’s representative to these
committees. The OEH acknowledges the nomination of Cr Rose Wanchap and requests an
additional 2 nominees. The nominees will need to complete a pecuniary interest declaration
(Annexure 2(a)) and provide a CV for submission with their nomination.

Recommendations to the Office of Environment and Heritage
1. The Management Committee may make recommendations to the Director-General
concerning the care, control or management of the National Park Lands.
2. The Management Committee may make recommendations to the Director-General regarding
educational and interpretative policies to be adopted by the Director-General and DEC in
relation to the National Park Lands.
3. The Management Committee may make recommendations to the Director-General regarding
its capital and recurrent budget estimates for the National Park Lands.
4. The Management Committee may make recommendations to the Director-General regarding
expenditure for the National Park Lands.
Meetings are held:
When: Bimonthly, 2 nd Friday
Time: 9.30am for approximately 2-3 hours
Where: Byron Coast Area office meeting room (Arakwal Depot, Tallow Beach Road, Byron
Bay)
Arakwal National Park Management Committee
The Arakwal National Park Management Committee is established under the Indigenous Land Use
Agreement (ILUA) between the State Government and the Byron Bay Arakwal People under the
Native Title process. The Minister for the Environment appoints the Committee members. The
ILUA states that the Committee will have one Byron Shire Councillor Representative who is for the
time being a member of the Byron Shire Council Aboriginal Consultative Committee.
Meetings are held:
When: Bimonthly, 2 nd Friday
Time: 12:30pm to 2.00pm
Where: Byron Coast Area office meeting room (Arakwal Depot, Tallow Beach Road, Byron
Bay)
