COURSE DESCRIPTIONS<br />

ATS379 Spanish Literature II credits: 3<br />

The thematic focus of this course is Spain in crisis from the war of 1898 to the Franco era.<br />

ATS381 20th Century Arts & Culture credits: 3<br />

This course is an interdisciplinary study of selected cultural and artistic movements of the<br />

twentieth century which constitute modernism, with an eye to a better understanding of<br />

contemporary culture. Students will consider how western artists of all kinds - literary, visual,<br />

musical - have responded to the experience of living in the twentieth century. Though<br />

the emphasis of the course is on modernism, related developments in twentieth century art<br />

will also be examined. PREREQUISITES: ATS281<br />

ATS382 Art, Polit, & Relig in the Ancient World credits: 3<br />

Examines several great periods of the ancient world with its characteristic aesthetics and<br />

principal architectural, sculptural and pictorial works. Special attention is given to the<br />

Assyria, Egypt and Classical Greek periods and how the religious beliefs and political systems<br />

of those cultures affected and were reflected in the visual arts. PREREQUISITES: ATS281<br />

BIO193 Medical Terminology credits: 1<br />

A programmed, self-paced course which permits the student to recognize, analyze, define,<br />

and build medical/biological terms from Greek and Latin roots.<br />

BIO201 General Biology credits: 4<br />

Students explore the fundamental concepts of biology: cytology, taxonomy, reproduction,<br />

heredity, evolution and ecology. Closed to those with two or more years of high school biology.<br />

BIO211 Botany: Flowering Plants credits: 3<br />

Flowering Plants: taxonomy, morphology, development and ecology.<br />

PREREQUISITES: BIO201<br />

BIO221 Zoology: Vertebrates credits: 3<br />

The focus of this course is the vertebrates, their morphology, physiology, taxonomy, environmental<br />

relationships, and development. PREREQUISITES: BIO201<br />

BIO257 LLP credits: 0<br />

The student has the opportunity to earn credit by writing a college-level paper reflecting<br />

learning in this subject through experience, reflection, concept formation, and application<br />

of those concepts to new situations. The paper is evaluated by a <strong>Concordia</strong> faculty member.<br />

BIO258 PST credits: 0<br />

The student petitions to gain academic credit through verification of completed collegelevel<br />

training (seminars, workshops, licenses, apprenticeships, etc.) conducted in a non-collegiate<br />

setting. The petition is evaluated by a <strong>Concordia</strong> faculty member.<br />

BIO295 Independent Study in Biology credits: 1<br />

Sophomore level independent study.<br />

BIO321 Zoology: Invertebrates credits: 3<br />

Students examine invertebrates: morphology and physiology, natural history, taxonomy, and<br />

economic importance of representative groups and forms. PREREQUISITES: BIO201<br />

BIO331 Human Biology (w) credits: 3<br />

This course studies human anatomy and physiology with an emphasis on the body systems<br />

and their interrelationships. PREREQUISITES: BIO201 and ENG101<br />

BIO341 Microbiology credits: 4<br />

The morphology, physiology, and economic importance of bacteria, viruses, rickettsiae,<br />

pathogenic protozoa, and immunology are examined. PREREQUISITES: BIO201
