SPA313 Spanish Conversation/Grammar credits: 3<br />

Provides a review and expansion on more complex aspects of Spanish grammar and structure<br />

developing all four language skills. A strong emphasis is placed on increasing proficiency<br />

and skill in oral expression. In addition to grammatical exercises, discussions on topics of<br />

contemporary interest are designed to ensure the course is taught in a functional and relevant<br />

SPA370 Spanish Art I credits: 3<br />

This course examines the great periods of Spanish art with its characteristic aesthetics, great<br />

masters, and principal architectural, sculptural and pictorial works. Special attention is<br />

given to the Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance periods. The course ends with a monographic<br />

Through the media, such as daily newspapers, magazines, television and films, students<br />

SPA375 Spanish Culture & Civilization credits: 3<br />

This course covers, in chronological order, the periods of the history of Spain from its origins<br />

up until and including the 18th century. It analyzes the aspects of each period that<br />

have contributed to the formation of Spain as a people and as a state. It connects the history<br />

of Spain with that of the Mediterranean Sea and of Europe, offering a general overview<br />

SPA376 Spain & the European Union credits: 3<br />

This course provides an ample view of the current economic and political importance of the<br />

15 countries (including Spain) that form part of the European Union. The institutions and<br />

governmental organisms of the EU are studied to understand the potential and future possibilities<br />

this supreme organization offers. The Euro is also analyzed along with its consequences<br />

The principle objective of this course is to learn how to observe paintings from an artistic<br />

point of view. It begins with the Spanish painters of the Golden Age (Velazquez, Murillo,<br />

Zurburan) and continues on through the 19th century with Goya, Sorolla, and Gaudi. The<br />

A literature based course in which students will read short stories, poems, and a novel.<br />

These literary works will be used for expansion of the students' understanding and knowledge<br />

SPA381 Adv Study in Spanish Language/Culture credits: 1<br />

Students compose a reflective and integrative essay in Spanish after spending a language<br />

intensive semester abroad. Students will meet periodically with the instructor during the
