Sophomore level independent study.<br />
ESC302 Glaciers, Glaciation, and the Ice Age credits: 1<br />
Students will examine different kinds of glaciers and how they shape the land. They will<br />
learn to recognize the various kinds of land forms created by glaciers. They will take a field<br />
trip through SE Michigan to look at the evidence for the ice age.<br />
ESC310 Meteorology credits: 3<br />
This course offers a study of the meteorological elements, the instruments that measure<br />
them, and the processes that control them.<br />

This course will provide students with an awareness of basic family theory as a tool for<br />
understanding family strengths and weaknesses, how family members relate to one other,<br />
and how families make decisions regarding developing and allocating resources.<br />

FAM321 Parent Education & Guidance (w) credits: 3<br />
The purpose of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the general philosophy<br />
and broad principles of family life education in conjunction with the ability to<br />
plan, implement, and evaluate such educational programs. PREREQUISITES: ENG101 and<br />
PSY211 or PSY212<br />
FAM390A Fieldwork IA credits: 3<br />
Students will spend 120 hours each semester in a supervised volunteer position at a local<br />
non-profit agency that provides support for families. PREREQUISITES: PSY211 and PSY212<br />
and SOC345<br />

Students will spend 120 hours each semester in a supervised volunteer position at a local<br />

FAM395 Independent Study in Family Life credits: 1<br />

FAM411 Family Law & Public Policy credits: 3<br />
This course provides an understanding of the legal definition of the family and examines<br />
the laws which affect the status of the family. Historical development of laws relating to<br />
marriage, divorce, family support, child custody, child protection and rights, and family<br />
planning will be examined.<br />
FAM421 Family Life Education Methodology credits: 3<br />
This course enables students to develop knowledge of the scope, trends, and current issues<br />
in family life education methodology, as well as the opportunity to demonstrate the use of<br />
methods and materials. PREREQUISITES: PSY211 and PSY212<br />
FAM430 Foundations of Youth Ministry credits: 3<br />
Explores Biblical foundations for youth ministry. It will help students experience several
