COURSE DESCRIPTIONS<br />

THE220 Theatre Repertory & Script Analysis credits: 2<br />

Students learn to analyze scripts using methods appropriate to various theatrical applications<br />

including design, acting and directing. Familiarity with theatre repertory will be expanded.<br />

THE257 LLP credits: 0<br />

The student has the opportunity to earn credit by writing a college-level paper reflecting<br />

learning in this subject through experience, reflection, concept formation, and application<br />

of those concepts to new situations. The paper is evaluated by a <strong>Concordia</strong> faculty member.<br />

THE258 PST credits: 0<br />

The student petitions to gain academic credit through verification of completed collegelevel<br />

training (seminars, workshops, licenses, apprenticeships, etc.) conducted in a non-collegiate<br />

setting. The petition is evaluated by a <strong>Concordia</strong> faculty member.<br />

THE290 Theatre Internship credits: 1<br />

Supervised internship in theatre<br />

THE295 Independent Study in Theatre credits: 1<br />

Sophomore level independent study.<br />

THE312 Theatre Practicum: Crew Head credits: 1<br />

Students participate in a college-sponsored, faculty directed production as the head of one<br />

of the following technical crews: set construction, properties, lighting, assistant director,<br />

stage manager, make-up, costumes or special effects. PREREQUISITES: THE212 or THE215<br />

THE314 Fundamentals of Acting credits: 3<br />

The study of the fundamental theories and techniques of acting. This course will serve as an<br />

introduction to the craft of acting. Through classroom exercises and scene work from contemporary<br />

plays, students will participate in preparation, script and character analysis and<br />

performance.<br />

THE315 Theatre Practicum: Directing credits: 1<br />

Students direct a one-act play subject to the instructor's approval. The instructor guides the<br />

student through the process as the student creates a production notebook documenting the<br />

experience from auditions through performance. PREREQUISITES: THE215<br />

THE322 Theatre Practicum: Design credits: 1<br />

Students will execute their own design in one of the following areas: set, lights, or costumes.<br />

The design must be for a college-sponsored production and meet instructor's approval.<br />

PREREQUISITES: THE212<br />

THE324 Theatre Practicum: Acting credits: 1<br />

Students will participate in a college-sponsored, faculty-directed production in a major role<br />

(role must be won in an open audition process). PREREQUISITES: THE314<br />

THE335 Directing credits: 3<br />

An intensive study of the practice of directing plays. Students will direct scenes or one-act<br />

plays for public performance. PREREQUISITES: THE215<br />

THE351 Professional Theatre in Performance credits: 3<br />

Students will attend and evaluate professional theatre productions in a regional theatrical<br />

center such as New York, Chicago, or London. Students will explore the cultural and historical<br />

context of the plays to be seen. Travel to the regional center is required.<br />

THE357 Drama in the Church credits: 3<br />

This course explores the variety of ways that drama can be used in a church setting; in worship,<br />

Christian education and fellowship. Practical work will be emphasized.<br />

THE395 Independent Study in Theatre credits: 1<br />

Junior level independent study.
