ADMISSION<br />
1968. The expanded academic program was most recently reviewed by The North Central<br />
Association in 2001. Accreditation of the four-year program has been in effect since July<br />
1976 and the graduate program since 1999. In addition, <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong> is accredited<br />
by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Documents<br />
are on file in the President’s Office and may be reviewed by appointment.<br />
<strong>Concordia</strong> holds membership in: the Lutheran Educational Conference of North America; the<br />
Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Michigan; the National Association of<br />
Independent Colleges and Universities; the American Council on Education; the American<br />
Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers; the Michigan Association of<br />
Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers; the American Association of Higher Education;<br />
the Michigan Association for Colleges of Teacher Education; the National Research Center for<br />
College and <strong>University</strong> Admissions; the National Association of Christian College Admissions<br />
Personnel; the Lutheran Admission Counselors of the Missouri Synod; the National Christian<br />
College Athletic Association; and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.<br />
<strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong> is a member of the <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong> System - a consortium of<br />
the ten colleges and universities nationwide owned and operated by the Lutheran Church -<br />
Missouri Synod. When a student enrolls at one <strong>Concordia</strong> campus, he or she is also<br />
enrolled in the <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong> System through a process called simultaneous enrollment.<br />
This provides the qualified student with the opportunity to participate in the visiting<br />
student program, which allows up to two semesters of study on another <strong>Concordia</strong> campus.<br />
In addition, students in the <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong> System may participate in all of the computer,<br />
communication, and video technologies which allow students on one campus to participate<br />
in selected courses on other <strong>Concordia</strong> campuses.<br />
Admission<br />
Admission to <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong> is based upon a wide range of criteria designed to identify<br />
a student body with integrity, high academic standards and serious educational and personal<br />
goals. True to the <strong>University</strong>’s commitment to individualized education, each application<br />
receives a confidential and in-depth reading.<br />
Admission Criteria<br />
When making the admission decision, the Director of Admission and/or Admissions<br />
Council considers a number of factors, including special characteristics of the applicant’s<br />
source of secondary education. These may include: the difficulty of the student’s overall curriculum;<br />
performance in the curriculum; rank in class; recommendations; test scores; personal<br />
statement and/or interview; special abilities not reflected in the student’s secondary<br />
education. In addition, recent grade trends and general contributions to the school, community<br />
and church may be considered.<br />
General Requirements<br />
The <strong>University</strong> requires that applicants possess a high school diploma (or GED diploma) and<br />
recommends that they have successfully completed a college preparatory curriculum that<br />
includes: four credits of English; three credits of mathematics, including two credits of algebra<br />
and one of geometry; two credits of social studies; two credits of laboratory sciences; two<br />
credits of a foreign language. (If a student has not successfully completed all of these courses,<br />
the student’s application may be deferred to the Admissions Council for further review.)<br />
All forms should be submitted to the Office of Admission. The admission application must<br />
be accompanied by a non-refundable application fee, which does not apply toward tuition.<br />
The admission forms and transcripts of credit become property of <strong>Concordia</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
and will not be returned or forwarded.
