For the North District:<br />

The first section of wire, not to exceed 125 feet, shall be<br />

furnished, installed, owned, and maintained by NSTAR from the<br />

pole line in the public way. All other private property<br />

construction will be furnished, installed, owned and maintained<br />

by NSTAR at the customer’s expense, subject to the following<br />

requirements:<br />

A. NSTAR is granted written permission from the property<br />

owner to install such poles, conductors, apparatus and<br />

attachments as required to provide electric service on<br />

private property.<br />

B. If the public pole line is on the opposite side of the street,<br />

NSTAR, at its own expense, will furnish, install, own and<br />

maintain the first pole on private property.<br />

C. The customer shall make provisions to guarantee NSTAR<br />

access to the private property facilities for installation and<br />

maintenance.These provisions will include plowing, paving,<br />

or whatever is necessary to ensure safe passage for NSTAR<br />

vehicles and personnel.<br />

D. When the customer has installed the private property<br />

construction, ownership will be transferred to NSTAR.<br />

Refer to Article 406,When Customers Install Their Own<br />

Electric Facilities.<br />

E. Any extension of private property construction required to<br />

provide service to another building on the same property,<br />

will be subject to the above requirements and will be at<br />

customer’s expense.<br />

F. Any extension of private property construction required to<br />

provide service to another customer will require an<br />

easement from the private property owner.<br />

For the South & Cambridge Districts – Residential<br />

Overhead Services from Overhead Lines:<br />

Where a NSTAR-owned distribution line exists along a public<br />

or private way, it is the general policy of NSTAR, subject to<br />

review in each case, to install at NSTAR’s expense, up to two<br />

wooden service poles and three spans of overhead wires and<br />

appurtenances on the customer’s property to serve a single<br />

family dwelling. Any additional construction that may be<br />

required will be at the customer’s expense.The customer will<br />

pay to NSTAR the carrying charge on the cost of construction<br />

in excess of the first two poles and three spans of wire. NSTAR<br />

will bring residential overhead electric service to the nearest<br />

point of attachment on the house or building by the most<br />

direct practical route as determined by NSTAR.<br />

Where a NSTAR-owned distribution line does not exist and a<br />

line extension along a public or private way is necessary to<br />

serve the customer, the cost of the private property<br />

construction will be at the customer’s expense. Please refer to<br />

the Residential Overhead Line Extension Policy or contact the<br />

NSTAR New Customer Connect Tech Center.All construction<br />

will be owned and maintained by NSTAR.<br />

NSTAR ownership of any poles on private property is effective<br />

only upon receipt of adequate legal protection as to property<br />

rights, trimming rights, and rights to extend the pole line to<br />

serve others, with associated documents to be approved by<br />

NSTAR counsel. Legally valid easements at no cost to NSTAR<br />

will be required whenever NSTAR-owned poles are located on<br />

private property.<br />

Under the Residential Overhead Line Extension Policy, the<br />

customer may elect to install an equivalent system approved by<br />

NSTAR but shall transfer said system to NSTAR for all of the<br />
