terminal box to provide for connection to NSTAR service<br />
conductors.Where the service entrance conductors are 350<br />
KCMIL or larger, the minimum length for each conductor shall<br />
be 3 feet.<br />
428. Terminal Facilities / Terminal Boxes<br />
Under all circumstances, terminal facilities shall be furnished,<br />
installed, owned and maintained by the customer. All terminal<br />
boxes shall be provided with a means for padlocking by<br />
NSTAR.The locking mechanism shall consist of two (2)<br />
locking hasps located on opposite sides of the terminal box. For<br />
services rated at 800-1000 amperes, see Sketch 9 for additional<br />
requirements. All terminal boxes shall be in accordance with<br />
the Massachusetts Electric Code.When an existing terminal<br />
box is to be replaced by the customer, NSTAR will, at<br />
customer request, de-energize the service at no cost. Upon<br />
completion of this replacement, and when approval has been<br />
received by the authority having jurisdiction, NSTAR will reenergize<br />
the service.<br />
Special Facilities:<br />
On installations requiring more than two service cables per<br />
phase, a special terminal facility may be required, especially in<br />
the Downtown Boston Network District of Boston.These<br />
installations, generally 800 amps and above, require the use of<br />
limiters as protective devices.The terminal facility is to be<br />
furnished, installed, owned and maintained by the customer<br />
under all circumstances. All special terminal facilities will be<br />
provided with a means for padlocking by NSTAR. Line-side<br />
connections will be made by NSTAR. All installations of this<br />
type will be coordinated through the NSTAR New Customer<br />
Connect Tech Center. See Sketch 9 for details. Installations<br />
greater than 1000 amps will require a limiter frame cabinet per<br />

NSTAR standards and must be coordinated through the<br />
NSTAR New Customer Connect Tech Center to arrange a site<br />
meeting with NSTAR Meter Operations. In addition, the<br />
customer must core drill or sleeve thru the foundation wall to<br />
connect 1-4 inch pvc per 400 amp of switch size (for example,<br />
an 800 amp switch requires 2-4 inch sleeves thru the<br />
foundation wall).<br />
429. Grounding and Bonding<br />
All secondary alternating current services having a grounded<br />
neutral shall have that neutral grounded on the customer’s<br />
premises at the service equipment as required by the<br />
Massachusetts Electrical Code.<br />
CUSTOMER <strong>REQUIREMENTS</strong> FOR PRIVATE<br />
PROPERTY INSTALLATIONS:<br />
430. Pole-Mounted Transformers<br />
Overhead services from a pole-mounted transformer on<br />
private property are restricted to installations where the<br />
required transformer capacity is 75 kVa or less for single<br />
phase, or 150 kVa or less for three phase. For installations<br />
exceeding the above values, a padmounted transformer is<br />
required.<br />
431. Mat and Fence Substation<br />
This type of private property installation is no longer available<br />
for new customers. It will be the responsibility of the existing<br />
customer to maintain the concrete transformer mat, liquid<br />
retaining curb where required by the authorities having<br />
jurisdiction, buried ground grid, stone fill, fence, and cable<br />
structure(s). Each of these items must meet NSTAR standards,<br />
which are available from the NSTAR New Customer Connect<br />
Tech Center.<br />
