Tuscany & Umbria

From sweeping valleys, vineyards and hilltop
villages to magnificent centres of art and
architecture, Tuscany has a wealth of sights
to explore. Using Florence or Pisa as a base,
explore the beautiful Tuscan countryside and
visit the picturesque towns of Lucca, San
Gimignano and Siena. Another highlight is
to visit one of the hillside vineyards where
you can taste one of the region’s celebrated
wines, such as chianti and brunello. Umbria’s
medieval towns, set among sweeping hills and
valleys, make it an ideal region for exploring,
walking and sampling excellent Italian cuisine.
The town of Assisi is home to two well-known
churches, the 12th-century Basilica of San
Francesco d’Assisi and the Basilica of Santa
Maria degli Angeli. In Umbria’s capital, Perugia, a
visit to the Cathedral of San Lorenzo and the
architecturally impressive Palazzo dei Priori is
very rewarding.

Porto Cervo, Sardinia
The northern lakes of Garda, Como and
Maggiore are among the most beautiful locations
in Italy. Lake Garda occupies an idyllic setting
with small picturesque towns dotted around
its edge. Lake Como, meanwhile, is known for
its wonderful lakeside villas. Lake Maggiore has
three small islands: Isola Bella features a baroque
palace, Isola Madre has botanical gardens; and
Rocca Borromeo has a fortress.
Milan is considered to be one of the best city
break destinations in the world. With designer
boutiques, the majestic Duomo and The Last
Supper by da Vinci, it offers an excellent range
of choices to suit all travellers. Verona will
forever be known as the fictional home of the
Montagues and Capulets, with the story of
Shakespeare’s doomed lovers and their famous
balcony taking central stage in the city. Stay in
Il Sogno di Giulietta, which is housed in the
courtyard of Juliet’s house.
