The most densely populated country in
Europe, the Netherlands is small and compact,
traversable by car or train in half a day. A land
of serene flat landscapes crossed by canals and
dykes, the countryside inspired many of the
Dutch masters.
The Dutch are an industrious people with
a tradition of tolerance that has welcomed
immigrants from all over the world. Highlights
of the country include the nation’s capital,
Amsterdam, which is the country’s largest city
and renowned for its 1,000 bridges crossing
canals lined with houseboats and a host of art
galleries.
Maastricht, an atmospheric laid back city
located in the south of the country between
the borders of Germany and Belgium, has a
superb old quarter, while The Hague (Den
Haag), Holland’s royal city, never fails to impress
visitors with its elegant atmosphere, broad
tree-lined avenues, boutiques and castles.

An excellent good short break destination,
densely populated Belgium has much to offer
visitors: whether it’s the cosmopolitan cities of
Brussels, Bruges and Antwerp whose historical
centres, museums, restaurants and galleries
attract visitors from around the world or the
medieval architecture of Ghent, once a rival
of Paris.
The country has a wealth of important
historical sites dating back through antiquity,
which are a testament to its important
location between France, Germany and the
Netherlands. From the Battle of Waterloo to
the defeat of the Habsburgs by the Protestant
Dutch rebels and the first world war, the area
of Belgium has decided some of history’s
most important events. Away from the cities,
visitors can take their pick from dune-filled
beaches and dense forests to pristine lakes
and underground caves: the countryside has a
wealth of attractions waiting to be discovered.
Day 1 – To Geneva: Fly from London
Heathrow to Geneva with British Airways.
On arrival, transfer and stay overnight at
Hotel Auteuil. (N)
Day 2 – To Montreux: Morning at leisure.
Transfer to the station for the afternoon
train to Montreux. Stay 2 nights at the
Suisse Majestic Hotel. (B)
Day 3 – Montreux: Full day at leisure. (B)
Day 4 – To Zermatt: Morning train to
Zermatt via Visp. Stay 2 nights at Walliserhof
Hotel. (B)
Day 5 – Zermatt: Full day at leisure. (B)
Day 6 – To St Moritz: Morning train to St
Moritz on the Glacier Express. Switzerland’s
most famous rail journey, the train travels
from Zermatt to St Moritz via some of
the most iconic attractions, including the
Matterhorn. The duration of the journey is
7 hours and 50 minutes. Stay 1 night at the

Day 7 – To Zurich: Morning at leisure.
Transfer to the station and take the train
to Zurich via Chur. Stay 2 nights at the
Schweizerhof Hotel. (B)
Day 8 – Zurich: Day at leisure. (B)
Day 9 – To London: Morning at leisure. In
the afternoon, transfer to Zurich airport
and fly to London Heathrow with British
