Considered to be the birthplace of modern
western civilisation, the influence of Greece
through its architecture, science and
philosophy still resonates today. Incorporating
the classic highlights of Olympia, Delphi,
Mycenae and Epidaurus, this tour also
explores Greece’s magnificent scenery and
the man-made wonders of the Corinth canal
and monasteries of Meteora.
THE JOURNEY
Day 1 – To Athens: Morning flight from
London Heathrow to Athens with British
Airways. Transfer to the Titania Hotel or similar
for 2 nights. (N)
Day 2 – Athens: Morning tour of Athens,
including Constitution square, Hadrian’s Arch,
the Presidential Palace and the Panathenaic
stadium, where the first Olympic Games of
the modern era were held. Continue to the
Acropolis to view the Parthenon and visit the
Acropolis museum. Afternoon at leisure or
optional tour to Cape Sounion to view the
Temple of Poseidon. (B)
Day 3 – To Olympia: Morning drive to the
ancient theatre at Epidaurus, via a stop at the
Corinth Canal. Continue to Mycenae, the seat
of King Agamemnon who led the Greek armies
against Troy. Considered to be one of the best
archaeological sites in Greece, explore the
ruined city, including visits to Lion’s Gate, the
city walls and the royal tombs. Afternoon drive
to Olympia, via Nauplion, to view the Palamidi
Fortress. Stay 1 night at Best Western Hotel
Europa. (B, D)
Day 4 – To Arachova: Morning tour of
Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic
Games. Visit the temples dedicated to Zeus
and Hera, the first Olympic stadium and
the archaeological museum. Continue to
Arachova and stay 1 night at the Anemolia
Hotel. (B, D)

Day 5 – To Kalabaka: Morning tour of the
Unesco world heritage site of Delphi.
Visit the Temple of Apollo, the treasure
of the Athenians and the museum, home
to an impressive collection of ancient
Greek sculptures. In the afternoon, drive to
Kalabaka. Stay overnight at the Antoniades
Hotel. (B, D)
Day 6 – To Athens: Morning tour of Meteora
and the six striking monasteries located
on rock formations. Dating from the 14th
century, they are a fine example of Byzantine
construction. Visit two monasteries; the Big
Meteoro and its museum, and Agios Stephanos.
Afternoon drive to Athens, via Thermopylae,
where the 300 Spartans fought against the
Persian empire of King Xerxes. Stay 1 night at
the Titania Hotel or similar. (B)
Day 7 – To London: Morning at leisure.
Afternoon transfer to the airport and fly to
London. (B)
