THE JOURNEY<br />

Day 1 – To Athens: Morning flight from<br />

London Heathrow to Athens with British<br />

Airways. Transfer to the Titania Hotel or similar<br />

for 2 nights. (N)<br />

Day 2 – Athens: Morning tour of Athens,<br />

including Constitution square, Hadrian’s Arch,<br />

the Presidential Palace and the Panathenaic<br />

stadium, where the first Olympic Games of<br />

the modern era were held. Continue to the<br />

Acropolis to view the Parthenon and visit the<br />

Acropolis museum. Afternoon at leisure or<br />

optional tour to Cape Sounion to view the<br />

Temple of Poseidon. (B)<br />

Day 3 – To Olympia: Morning drive to the<br />

ancient theatre at Epidaurus, via a stop at the<br />

Corinth Canal. Continue to Mycenae, the seat<br />

of King Agamemnon who led the Greek armies<br />

against Troy. Considered to be one of the best<br />

archaeological sites in Greece, explore the<br />

ruined city, including visits to Lion’s Gate, the<br />

city walls and the royal tombs. Afternoon drive<br />

to Olympia, via Nauplion, to view the Palamidi<br />

Fortress. Stay 1 night at Best Western Hotel<br />

Day 4 – To Arachova: Morning tour of<br />

Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic<br />

Games. Visit the temples dedicated to Zeus<br />

and Hera, the first Olympic stadium and<br />

the archaeological museum. Continue to<br />

Arachova and stay 1 night at the Anemolia<br />

Hotel. (B, D)<br />

Day 5 – To Kalabaka: Morning tour of the<br />

Unesco world heritage site of Delphi.<br />

Visit the Temple of Apollo, the treasure<br />

of the Athenians and the museum, home<br />

to an impressive collection of ancient<br />

Greek sculptures. In the afternoon, drive to<br />

Kalabaka. Stay overnight at the Antoniades<br />

Hotel. (B, D)<br />

Day 6 – To Athens: Morning tour of Meteora<br />

and the six striking monasteries located<br />

on rock formations. Dating from the 14th<br />

century, they are a fine example of Byzantine<br />

construction. Visit two monasteries; the Big<br />

Meteoro and its museum, and Agios Stephanos.<br />

Afternoon drive to Athens, via Thermopylae,<br />

where the 300 Spartans fought against the<br />

Persian empire of King Xerxes. Stay 1 night at<br />

the Titania Hotel or similar. (B)<br />

Day 7 – To London: Morning at leisure.<br />

Afternoon transfer to the airport and fly to<br />

London. (B)<br />
