A Luxury Tour will usually feature 5-star
de luxe accommodation throughout, while
a Standard Tour will usually feature 4-star
accommodation throughout. An additional
type of holiday is the ‘Discovery Tour’, which
would be better suited to the hardier traveller,
as it will typically include some quite basic
accommodation, possibly longer and rougher
road journeys and, in some cases, more
arduous activities, such as trekking.
WHEN TO TRAVEL
The changing climate can have a major
impact on the timing of trips to Europe and
pages 94-95 feature detailed charts showing
temperature and rainfall in the various regions.
These climate charts are based on historic data
and, in a world of increasingly extreme weather,
they should be regarded as indicative of typical
conditions rather than guarantees of what you
should expect at particular times of year.
Europe is also well known for its cultural
festivals. Some Cox & Kings holidays have special
festival departures and these are highlighted on
the tour page. If you are interested in visiting a
particular celebration, please contact a Cox &
Kings tour consultant for dates.
COMBINING
MULTIPLE REGIONS
Should you wish to combine multiple regions
of the world in a single journey, Cox & Kings
has a great deal of experience at tailoring such
travel plans, including arranging round-theworld
flights. Please contact us for details of
the various options and a price quotation.
HOLIDAY EXTENSIONS
Cox & Kings is happy to arrange for you to
extend your stay in Europe. We have suggested
possible extension options for most of the
tours in this brochure. However, our specialist
consultants would also be delighted to design a
tailor-made extension, either pre- or post-tour,
to fit in with your particular interests. Please
note that tour extensions are operated on the
same basis as Private Journeys unless other
members of the main tour group choose to
take the same extensions, in which case the
relevant services may be shared.
ACCOMMODATION
There is not room to describe all the hotels
in this brochure; however, many of the best
properties are described and depicted in
the hotel brochure pages and the facilities of
almost all the hotels are listed in the hotel
guide on our website, coxandkings.co.uk.
REGIONAL AIR
CONNECTIONS
& FLIGHT UPGRADES
Most Cox & Kings holidays are based on flights
out of London Heathrow or Gatwick airports.
In most cases, it is possible to connect with
those flights from regional British airports for
a small supplement. In addition, Cox & Kings
offers very favourable prices for upgrading
to Business Class. For many holidays, this
supplement information is included on the
tour page. Where space does not allow for this,
you can refer to another tour that features the
same international airline to find the applicable
supplement prices.
Fontana di Trevi, Rome
SINGLE & SOLE
SUPPLEMENTS
Most hotels around the world charge more
per person for a single-occupancy room than
for a shared twin room, because the cost
of maintaining a room for one person can
be almost as high as it is for two. In addition,
many single-occupancy rooms are of the same
specification as twin / double rooms.
Most of the price tables in this brochure
indicate supplementary charges for single
or sole passengers. The difference in definition
between the two supplements is that a ‘Single’
traveller is someone occupying a single room
when travelling with one or more other
people, while a ‘Sole’ traveller, is someone
travelling entirely on their own.
If you are planning to travel on a group tour
as a single traveller you should look at the
‘Single Supplement’ price. However, if you are
planning to add an extension to that tour,
you should read down the ‘Sole Supplement’
column. These prices take into account the
fact that you are ‘sole’ only on the extension
section.
ENSURING YOUR
ENJOYMENT
When making a booking, if you feel that
there is anything Cox & Kings should know
about that is essential to your enjoyment of
the holiday, please ensure that we have been
made aware of this in writing at the time of
booking, preferably using the reservation form
itself (see page 82).
