Installation of first Hydrogen Station <strong>in</strong> the Chugoku region of Japan<br />
As part of our commitment to roll<strong>in</strong>g out the use of the hydrogen<br />
rotary eng<strong>in</strong>e, <strong>Mazda</strong> received permission from the Hiroshima<br />
Prefectural authorities to develop the first hydrogen station <strong>in</strong> the<br />
Chugoku region of Japan on February 3, 2005. The station has begun<br />
operat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the Uj<strong>in</strong>a section of our Hiroshima Head Office plant. This<br />
facility supplies hydrogen for hydrogen rotary eng<strong>in</strong>e vehicles and<br />
hydrogen eng<strong>in</strong>e test<strong>in</strong>g facilities, and has the capacity to fill up to<br />
approximately ten hydrogen-powered cars per day.<br />
Develop<strong>in</strong>g hybrid Vehicles<br />
<strong>Mazda</strong> has also been work<strong>in</strong>g on the development of hybrid cars,<br />
which comb<strong>in</strong>e gasol<strong>in</strong>e eng<strong>in</strong>es with electric motors. In 2001 we<br />
exhibited a hybrid 4WD "MX Sport Tourer" at the 71st Geneva Motor<br />
Show. At present, we are work<strong>in</strong>g with Ford on creat<strong>in</strong>g a hybrid<br />
version of the Tribute and br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g it to market <strong>in</strong> the near future.<br />
