POLICIES, PROCEDURES & PRACTICES: Outlined processes for all components of the program
to be followed by staff to ensure quality services. The lists provided are to be used as a guide to
assist programs in developing additional policies as required to maintain a quality service.
PRESCHOOL: NURSERY SCHOOLS/EARLY LEARNING/PRESCHOOL LEARNING/SCHOOL
READINESS: Any program that offers a school readiness component to children.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Staff participation in workshops, meetings, seminars, site visits,
etc. which enhances program quality.
PROGRAM QUALITY INDICATORS (PQI): Criteria outlined by the Children Services Section of the
City of Greater Sudbury to assist agencies in reaching a higher standard of quality in their program.
STAFF: All staff. Full time, part time, relief, support, contract, enhanced.
SUN SAFE: Hats, sunscreen, water bottle.
SUPPORT STAFF: Cook, janitor, administrative.
TELEPHONE: Cell phone, long distance.
THE NETWORK: The Network exists to foster the growth and development of supervisor’s and
director’s as they evolve child care environments to support families. Membership of The Network
include: any management/supervisory position of CCR members including Ontario Early Years
Centres (OEYC), representative of CCR, City of Greater Sudbury (ex-officio), MC&YS (ex-officio)
and non member child care programs who are not CCR members (for portions of the meetings when
the funders will be giving system information/direction or updates.
TRAINED: A person who has the qualifications set out in the regulations under the DNA and who
plans and oversees program for one group of children as set out in section 59 of the regulation under
the DNA.
UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS: Sanitary practices, handwashing, dental hygiene, diapering, meal
preparation, washroom practices.
WEATHER CONDITIONS: Smog, excess heat, frost bite, humidex, windchill.
