Additionally, the park would contain a forebay for sediment removal connected to the interstate bridge run-off drain to accommodate the east side of the bridge’s precipitation run-off. 134 PDDP DESIGN

WITH RAIN GARDEN VEGETATION CONSTRUCTED WETLAND RETENTION BASIN The plantings for the park project support native species that are adapted to wet and dry habitats. Vegetation would include four layers: canopy, shrub, herbaceous, and emergent that form a sustainable ecosystem that can also function as local habitat. Several recommended tree and shrub types, such as winterberry and black gum, turn red in the fall to add seasonal variety to the experience of the park. Other selected plantings would be evergreen, so that the park would be further compelling in winter. PDDP FINAL REPORT 135
