Minutes <strong>of</strong> Council Meeting on 21 May 2002
Tyalla Avenue and adjoining streets, Warringah Road as a thoroughfare
between Mavor Crescent and Warringah Road without hindrance.
2. This carriageway provides immediate resident access to the Forest
Coachlines bus stop from Mavor Cres for buses into Chatswood.
3. Cutting <strong>of</strong>f this access would require access users to walk a further five
<strong>minutes</strong> either north or south along Maxwell Parade to access
Warringah Road and the next nearest bus stop.
4. Maxwell Parade is not footpathed and is used by a considerable flow <strong>of</strong>
resident and visitor traffic which is at a maximum when pedestrians are
walking to the bus stop in the mornings and evenings. Forcing the Mavor
Cres/Warringah Road access users to walk the length <strong>of</strong> Maxwell Parade
will increases the chances <strong>of</strong> vehicular injury to these pedestrians.
In Summary the reasons for retaining public access between Mavor Cres and
Warringah Road are tw<strong>of</strong>old:
• residential convenience via a traditionally used carriageway
• pedestrian safety
Suggestions
We request that the following be considered by <strong>council</strong>:
1. The above application be refused.
2. That Council consider, in the light <strong>of</strong> the long term use <strong>of</strong> the
carriageway as “public” access, the possibility <strong>of</strong> purchase <strong>of</strong> all or an
appropriate portion <strong>of</strong> the carriageway to ensure that residential access
between Mavor Cres and Warringah Road be maintained.
We hope that your consideration will meet the interests <strong>of</strong> local residents.
2. Request the General Manager to investigate the possibility <strong>of</strong> purchasing the
respective land and report to Council accordingly on this issue.
