Education aim at the ideal.<br />

Not one <strong>of</strong> these has full<br />

perception <strong>of</strong> that at which it aims and<br />

; yet the con<br />

cept is definite enough to be effective. Shall the ideal<br />

<strong>of</strong> the metaphysician alone be incompetent, as being<br />

/the ideal <strong>of</strong> a whole interpenetrating- and inclusive <strong>of</strong><br />

all human aspirations and activities (both theoretical<br />

and practical), and giving- meaning to every other ideal ?<br />

At any rate, it is implicitly supposed in science, as in<br />

the other provinces, and its ineradicability from human<br />

nature, and the satisfaction that it<br />

brings<br />

to the in<br />

dividual in harmonizing life and experience, should<br />

commend it to the pragmatist and humanist, to whom<br />

harmony and satisfaction are everything.
