For written surveys: should workers/members sign the survey?<br />
Those completing a written survey may be more willing <strong>to</strong> give honest<br />
answers <strong>to</strong> certain questions if they think their privacy is protected. On<br />
the other h<strong>and</strong>, it might be useful <strong>to</strong> know who has what concerns. There<br />
are a few ways <strong>to</strong> deal with this. You could include a question on the<br />
survey about the worker’s department or job title <strong>to</strong> get an idea of what<br />
concerns are arising in which departments or job classifications. You<br />
could also give people the opportunity <strong>to</strong> sign the survey if they want <strong>to</strong>.<br />

An oral survey is not anonymous. At least the person conducting the<br />

Should your survey collect information on workers’ ages, gender, race,<br />
length of time in this workplace, length of time on their particular job,<br />
etc.? The advantage of collecting this type of information is that it allows<br />
the union <strong>to</strong> become more aware of whether certain hazards are affecting<br />
women more than men, older workers more than younger workers, those<br />
new <strong>to</strong> the workplace rather than those who have been around a long
