StoreFront 5.0 This section is only for users with StoreFront 5.0 Merchant Tools. CREATING CATEGORIES Every time you add a product to your inventory you will be required to specify the product’s category. You should create a basic list of categories before you begin adding products to your inventory. Additional categories can be added to the list as necessary. To create a category using the Merchant Tools, simply follow the steps listed below. 1. Open the Merchant Tools in your browser. Under Category, click the link for Add Category. 2. Enter the name of the category in the Category Name field. This is the name that will be displayed to your customers when they search your inventory using the StoreFront search engine(search.asp). 3. Enter a description of the category in the Category Description field. This information is for your administrative use and reference, and will not be available to customers. 4. Enter the path to an image for the category in the Default Category Image URL. This image will be used as the default image on the search results pages for items that do not have a Product Small Image or Product Large Image specified. If no image path is specified, no default image will be used. For more information on product images, please see Creating Products page 201. 5. Check Activate Category to make this category available on your site. If Activate Category is not checked, then items in this category will not be available from the search engine. Items in this category can still be purchased from other product pages that you have created using product bots. 206

Additional categories can be added at any time. To retrieve the list of available categories, click List All Categories under the Categories section of the HTML Admin Tool. To modify the information for a category, click Edit/Delete Categories. From the drop-down box, select the category you want to edit, then click Submit. The categories matching the entry will be displayed and can be edited or removed. EDITING AND DELETING CATEGORIES You can change the information for a product Category at any time after it has been added to your list. The instructions below describe how to modify or remove a Category using the Merchant Tools. 1. Open the Merchant Tools in your browser. Click the link for Edit/Delete Category. 2. Select the Category you wish to modify from the Category Name drop-down list. 3. To delete the Category you’ve selected, click the Delete button. 4. Click the Edit button to modify the information for the selected category. 5. If you have any questions about the options found under the editing screen, please refer to the preceding section. 207
