StoreFront 5.0 Any product pages you have created with StoreFront 2000 will continue to function with StoreFront 5.0. Be sure to test the web thoroughly after performing the upgrade. If you encounter any problems, please contact StoreFront Support (support@storefront.net). USING THE DATABASE UPGRADE TOOL The StoreFront 5.0 Database Upgrade Tool will upgrade an older StoreFront 2000 database to a format suitable for use with StoreFront 5.0. Follow the instructions below to use this tool. Note: the Database Upgrade Tool is only for use with an Access database. SQL users should import all of the data from the SQL server database into an empty copy of the storefront.mdb StoreFront 5.0 Access database, then re-upsize this database using the upsizing guide on www.StoreFront.net in the Knowledge Base. For further clarification, please contact StoreFront Support. 1. Click on the Start menu. From the programs list, select StoreFront 5.0, then StoreFront Database Upgrade. 2. Enter the path to your database. If you don’t know the exact location of the database, click the Browse button. The database should be in a location like C:\INETPUB\wwwroot\your SF2000 web\fpdb\storefront.mdb or C:\WEBSHARE\wwwroot\your SF2000 web\fpdb\storefront.mdb . Click Upgrade. 40 3. Allow the upgrade wizard to run to completion. If you encounter an error, please contact StoreFront Support. When the process is finished, the wizard will ask you if you would like to delete the old tables. Retaining the old tables is not necessary, and deleting them will not have any detrimental effects on the operation of your web. Deleting the old tables will also decrease the size of the database considerably.
User Guide This will complete the database upgrade process. You can now add StoreFront 5.0 files to your StoreFront 2000 web by using the Import Wizard. Creating a Remote StoreFront Web or Adding StoreFront to a Remote Web Developing StoreFront remotely on a production server is the most highly recommended method for development. If you choose to develop locally, then publish the site to a production server, you will need to reconfigure the site to run in the new environment. However, when developing on the production server itself, you only need to configure the site once. You will also avoid problems that may be caused by the lack of functionality provided by Microsoft Personal Web Server. The next few sections describe the tasks that are involved in creating a remote StoreFront web. CHOOSING A HOST The first step that you will take when creating a web or publishing a web is choosing a host. A responsive and professional host is vital to the smooth operation of your StoreFront web. StoreFront is designed to run on any NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 server running IIS 4.0 or 5.0. Payment Processing Services (page 78) and Mail Services (page 60) may require the installation of additional software. Your host can find a list of server requirements under System Requirements, page 8. A list of recommended hosts who have experience supporting StoreFront can be found at the StoreFront Web Host Partners page on www.StoreFront.net. ADDING STOREFRONT TO A REMOTE WEB USING THE IMPORT WIZARD If you have a web that is live and hosted on a remote server, you can add StoreFront files to it by using the Import Wizard function of the Store Creator. This method can be used to add StoreFront to a new, empty web, or to add StoreFront files to an existing web site that you want to add e-commerce capabilities to. Follow the instructions below to StoreFront-enable a remote web. 1. Open FrontPage. Click File, then Open Web. Enter the address of your web in the Folder Name field. 41
