StoreFront 5.0 Once you have set your business rules and built an inventory , it is time to apply design elements to your site and to build the pages that will allow customers to purchase your products online. The StoreFront Themes feature will allow you to format all the StoreFront ASP pages in your site without actually having to modify their code. Even if you’re a web developer with little or no experience working with ASP, the Themes will let you give your entire site a smooth, consistent, and very professional appearance. This chapter covers the configuration tasks you must perform to use the StoreFront themes, beginning in Using the StoreFront Themes Feature, page 101. StoreFront also gives you extensive control over the design and layout of the StoreFront Search Engines. Instructions on configuring the design of the search engines begin in the next section, Search Engine and Advanced Search Engine Design. Search Engine and Advanced Search Engine Design The inventory of your web is organized by default using Categories, Manufacturers, and Vendors. This provides you with a practical means of organizing your inventory while allowing customers to perform detailed product searches based on these criteria. You may find it preferable to change these labels to something more suitable to your business. For example, if you were designing a web to sell books online, you might prefer to change Category to Genre, Manufacturer to Author, and Vendor to Publisher. These changes can be made using the StoreFront Design menu of the Web Manager. Please read the following sections, Modifying the Search Engine/Output Labels and Setting Advanced Search Engine Options, for more information on how to alter the design of the StoreFront Search Engines. More information about the search engines themselves can be found on page 11, under How a StoreFront Web Store Works: The Search Engines. MODIFYING THE SEARCH ENGINE/OUTPUT LABELS You can change the display labels used by StoreFront on dynamically generated product pages and pages produced by the StoreFront Search Engine. The changes you make to the labels displayed here will be reflected in three places: • On the search.asp page • On the advancedsearch.asp page. • On the search results pages generated by search.asp and advancedsearch.asp • On the pages generated by detail.asp. 98
User Guide Follow the directions below to modify your Search and Search Output Labels. 1. Connect to your database using the Store Builder. If you are unsure of how to do this, please refer to Connecting to a Remote or Local Database, page 21, for further instructions. 2. Open the Web Manager. Click on the StoreFront Design tab. 3. You will see the labels that are currently in use under Search Engine Design, Labels on Search and Search Output. You can change these to anything you like, but we recommend that they be alphanumeric. The labels and their uses are described below: • Product ID: each item is assigned a unique product ID. You can change this to a similar organizational unit, such as SKU. The default is simply Product ID. • Description: this is usually a brief description of a product item. You can change the label for Description to something similar, such as Specifications, Synopsis, etc. The default is Description. • Price: this is simply the label displayed next to the price of an item. You can change the Price label to something similar. The default is Price. • Sale Price: if you have put an item on sale, the Sale Price will be displayed below the regular Price. You may want to change this label to something like Discount or Special. The default is Sale Price. • You Saved: when an item is placed on sale, the difference between the sale price and the normal price will be displayed next to this label (“You Saved 99
