StoreFront 5.0 4. Leave the Name set to the default of Database1, or use a brief name of your own choosing. Select File or folder in current web, then click Browse. Browse to the location of the database within the web (this should be the fpdb folder) and highlight the file by clicking on it. If you are using a SQL database, select Network connection to database server instead of File or folder in current web. Click Browse. Under Type of database driver, select SQL Server. In the Server Name field, enter the IP of the SQL Server that hosts your database, and in the Database name field, enter the name of your database. If you don’t know this information, ask your host. Click OK, then click Advanced. Enter 44
User Guide your SQL server username and password in the appropriate fields, then click OK until you are returned to the Database tab. 5. You should now see your new connection displayed with a ? next to it. Select the new connection by clicking on it, then click Verify, then Apply. The blue question mark will change to a green check mark. This will apply the database connection to your web and allow your ASP pages to communicate with the database. You can test the new connection by opening a browser and entering the URL of your web in the address window, followed by /search.asp; i.e. http:// www.yourweb.com/search.asp. If search.asp loads correctly, then you have an active database connection in your site. CREATING THE MSADC SERVICE In order to manage and administer a StoreFront site hosted on a remote web server, you must be able to connect to the site’s database using the StoreFront development tools. In order for this to be possible, your host must first configure what is called the MSADC Services. This configuration is only necessary on the live server, and does not need to be performed if you are developing a local site. Details on configuring the MSADC services can be found on www.StoreFront.net. 45
