BICYCLEGOAL BOBJECTIVES B.1.aB.1.bB.1.cPOLICIES B.2.aB.2.bB.2.cB.2.dB.2.eB.2.fB.2.gMaintain and expand an integrated statewide network <strong>of</strong> on-road and <strong>of</strong>f-road bicycle routes to provide a safe means <strong>of</strong> travel forcommuting, recreation, and tourism in order to improve public health, and reduce auto congestion and dependency.Increase bicycle ridership.Complete <strong>Rhode</strong> <strong>Island</strong> portion <strong>of</strong> East Coast Greenway.Complete the 200 mile integrated statewide bicycle system as recommended in the Greenspace and Greenways Element <strong>of</strong> the stateGuide Plan by 2020.Maintain existing bicycle paths and on-street lanes in a clean, safe, and attractive condition.Expand the on and <strong>of</strong>f-road bicycle network – prioritizing projects that provide links between bike paths, seamless connections to othermodes, or have the potential to reduce automobile traffic. This includes provision <strong>of</strong> facilities such as bike racks, lockers, showers,etc.Encourage cities and towns to address bicycle transportation in comprehensive plans. Promote locally sponsored bicycle facilitieswhich connect with and complement the state system.Adhere to the "bicycle tolerant" design philosophy in all highway reconstructions. Include experienced bicyclists in the design reviewprocess for both on and <strong>of</strong>f road bicycle routes.Promote bicycling as a viable transportation choice for commuters, students, and tourists.
