The IDE will provide users with the ability to evaluate andhighlight <strong>for</strong> future reference or to make annotations, approvals, and comments without the ability tochange the original file. Annotations will be associated with a specific item or location within adocument so that the annotations are displayed whenever that point or area <strong>of</strong> the document isdisplayed.3.3.3 Extract/process/trans<strong>for</strong>m (E). The IDE will provide authorized users the ability to extractand modify the <strong>for</strong>mat, composition, and structure <strong>of</strong> all or a portion <strong>of</strong> the data into another usable<strong>for</strong>m without affecting the original content or <strong>for</strong>mat.3.3.4 Update/maintain (U). The IDE will provide authorized users with the ability to changedata either directly or through controlling s<strong>of</strong>tware, in the active files on the host computer.3.3.5 Archive (A). The concept <strong>of</strong> archiving involves the placing <strong>of</strong> data into a repository topreserve it <strong>for</strong> future use. Once the Government assumes XYZ training configuration managementresponsibility, long-lived data, such as instructional per<strong>for</strong>mance requirements, media requirements,instructional media design, and training program structure should be delivered in accordance with theDDDS. These items will be archived <strong>for</strong> long-term storage and protection <strong>for</strong> future developmentalchanges and support purposes. Prior to the Government assuming XYZ training configurationmanagement responsibility, the record copy <strong>of</strong> most training data will remain with the primecontractor. Table 3-2 provides a summary <strong>of</strong> the data use requirements <strong>of</strong> XYZ training program datausers and depicts how the data is intended to be used. Note that this list is not intended to be allinclusive; rather it leads to a decision point <strong>for</strong> the <strong>for</strong>mat and delivery mode <strong>of</strong> the data deliverables.The numbers found in the ‘V’, ‘C’, ‘E’, ‘U’, ‘A’, and ‘2’ columns indicate how many <strong>of</strong> the Activitiessupporting this program use the CDRL data item in the manner indicated.
