NRIPower Systems Control & Dispatching Research CenterProject Title:Design & Implementation of Distribution RTU for Poletop &Ground Distribution SubstationDepartment: Dispatching & Telemetery Project Manager: K. FarahaniEmployer: Niroo Research InstituteProject Code: PDIPN04Project Staff: F. Shekarizadeh, M. Bigdeli, L. AbdiSummary:Today Distribution Automation is a way for intelligently using advanced technology toincrease the reliability at reduced system operation cost. Automation applied to thedistribution feeders can reduce time required to locating fault, reduce the need for crewto travel to remote switching points, and result in rapid restoration of power supplies toaffected customers. One of the most important parts of distribution automation systemsare RTUs. NRI has designed RTUCAN for ground and poletop distributionsusbstations.Project Results: Construction of one sample for ground and one sample for poletop substations Directly connection to CTs and PTs and measurment of RMS voltage, RMScurrent, active power, reactive power and power factor (Transducerless) IEC 60870-5-101 communication protocol to control center CAN industrial network with CANopen application layer for communicationbetween various intelligent boards Local control implementation facility Possibility of implementing synchronous and asynchronous communicationprotocols such as DNP3.0, ModBus, IEC 60870-5-10393
