Saheb-ZamaniSummary:Electric machine laboratory is established to assist the researchers and engineers todevelop the research projects and the other activities related to Electric MachineDepartment fields.This laboratory has been organized based on outcomes of the project entitled "Design ofElectric Machine Laboratory" that carried out in Electric Machine Department in 2000.In this project the conceptual needs and detail specifications of an updated electricmachine laboratory with research approach were addressed as well as the overallspecification of all necessary equipment to meet the objectives.The basic approach to organize a research lab such as the Lab mentioned here ispreparing a place with all equipment and facilities that researchers need for the researchpurposes, thus it is completely different with the teaching laboratory that organizedaround a set of self-contained workstations. It’s worth saying that safety is afundamental objective in all laboratories, thus many safety approaches used for thislaboratory too.In fall of <strong>2003</strong>, the first phase of the laboratory was commissioned after following twosteps.1- Making ready the place and providing all necessary installation.2- Selecting, ordering, purchasing, installing and setting up the equipment andworkstations.In addition to provided equipment and workstations, this lab has equipped to some stateof the art softwares for modeling and simulation of different electric machines.The lab has more than 130 m 2 of space as well as adequate facilities and possibilities tolet us extend its capabilities in future based on the long term planning.In second phase, it’s planned to provide the modern and state of the art equipment forstandard electric motor tests and getting all necessary certifications for reference labs,thus it can be taken into account as a Motor Test Reference Lab in specific rating.Project Results: Comprehensive facilities to investigate the operating characteristics of followingelectric machines and devices.- Synchronous AC machines up to 400 V, 55 kVA, 1500 rpm.- Asynchronous machines up to 400 V, 30 kVA, 1500 rpm.- DC motor up to 100 V, 10 kVA- DC Generator up to 350 V, 50 kVA.14
Electric Power Systems Research CenterNRI- Low voltage single and three phase transformers up to 400 V, 50 kVA.- Low voltage reactors and capacitor banks. Finite element 2D or 3D modeling of different electric machines in order toelectromagnetic, mechanical or thermal analysis in steady state or transient condition.
