NRIPower Generation Research CenterProject Title :Enhanced Heat Exchanger DesignDepartment: Power Plant Mechanical Systems Project Manager: F. KhosraviEmployer: Niroo Research Plan, Tavanir Co. Project Code: PMEPT01Project Staff: G.R. Valizadeh, M. Tabesh, H. Taherian, M. Ghadiri,M. Soltani Hosseini, S. Arab MoghaddamSummary:The main objective of this project was the study of thermohydraulics performance ofenhanced heat exchanger. For this purpose, the various methods of heat transferaugmentation are studied and overall heat transfer coefficient of plain, corrugated andfinned tubes are determined. According to test results, suitable solutions arerecommended in order to improve the oil cooler performance of gas turbine in hotseasons.Test rig and enhanced tubesProject Results : The results of performance tests show that:1. In liquid phase, overall heat transfer coefficient of finned tubes is about54% higher than plain tubes and therefore they can improve the powerplant heat exchanger performance, considerably.2. Finned tubes and corrugated tubes increase pressure drop about 9.5% and7.1% compared with plain tubes, respectively. Replacing the tubes of Hitachi gas turbine oil cooler with enhanced tubes reduces2°C the outlet oil temperature. This modification can solve the production drop due tooil temperature increasing.23
