How do I apply for a school place?How do I apply for a schoolplace?!Don’t be late! If your application is late it will affect your chances of getting a place atone of your preferred schools. The closing date for all applications is 31 October 2014.In order that your child can be considered forentry to school for the school year 2015/2016you must complete and submit the commonapplication form by 31 October 2014.Completed common application forms forresidents of South Gloucestershire must bereturned directly to South GloucestershireCouncil’s Admissions & Transport Team.Parents/carers who do not live in SouthGloucestershire but who wish to apply for a placeat a secondary school in South Gloucestershiremust complete the common application formavailable from the local authority in which theylive. If an application form is received from aparent/carer living in England but outside theadministrative area of South Gloucestershire,the form will be returned to the relevant homeauthority.Where a common application form is sentdirect to a school in South Gloucestershire, theform will be forwarded by the school to SouthGloucestershire Council Admissions & TransportTeam.Should any parent/carer include on theirapplication form a preference for an independentschool, the independent school preference will bedisregarded and the remaining preferences forschools will be given a higher ranking than thatshown on the original application form.Glossary of Terms for a definition of parental/carerresponsibility). It is important that both parents/carers agree with the preferred schools namedso any difficulties in reaching this agreement aredealt with in advance of the closing date. We canprocess only one application per child and SouthGloucestershire Council cannot become involvedin disputes between parents/carers.ON-LINE APPLICATIONS: NOTE:You may change the details on yourapplication up until the closing date,though it is very important to rememberto re-submit each time you view or makechanges to your application. If you donot re-submit your application aftermaking changes it will not be submittedon time and your application will betreated as late.Completing the commonapplication formParents/carers of children resident in SouthGloucestershire have two options for completingthe common application form:❚ Apply on-line atwww.southglos.gov.uk/admissionsYou will receive an email to confirm that yourapplication has been received.All parents/carers must complete the commonapplication form.Only the parent/carer with legal responsibilityfor the child may complete and submit theapplication form and only one applicationper child will be accepted (please refer to the❚ Complete the paper application form providedat the back of this booklet and return it to theaddress shown on the form. Please be awarethat owing to the volume of applications SouthGloucestershire Council is unable to provideacknowledgements for applicants using thepaper form.10Apply on-line at: www.southglos.gov.uk/admissions
Applying on-lineThe on-line application form is available 24 hoursa day, seven days a week up to the submissiondate of 31 October 2014. Once you havecompleted and submitted an on-line applicationform you will receive an email to confirm yourapplication has been received.If you have previously registered with the onlinesystem you can simply log on using youroriginal email address and password. If youhave not used the system before, you will needto choose a password and enter this in both the‘password’ and ‘re-type password’ boxes (you areadvised to use a password that you will be likelyto remember easily). If you have changed youremail address since your previous application,you will need to log on using your original emailaddress and then enter your new email address in‘my details’.Completing and returning thepaper application formCompleted common application forms forresidents of South Gloucestershire must bereturned directly to South GloucestershireAdmissions & Transport Team. Applications fora place will be considered only if parents/carershave submitted the completed commonapplication form by the closing dateof 31 October 2014. Any change inpreference received before the closingtime and date will supersede allprevious applications which will bewithdrawn.Supplementary formsAll parents/carers must complete the commonapplication form. However, individual admissionauthorities for academies and foundation trustschools may wish to use supplementary formsto collect additional information in order to applytheir over-subscription criteria. Parents/carerswill need to contact the individual schools forinformation.Admission for children withstatements of special educationalneeds (SEN) or an education,health and care plan (EHC Plan)There is a separate form for children withStatements of SEN or an EHC Plan which will beprovided to parents/carers by the relevant leadprofessional. If your child has a Statement ofSEN or an EHC Plan do not complete the formin this booklet. However, you may find some ofthe information useful. If your child is undergoingstatutory assessment please contact your leadprofessional for further advice before completinga form.
