Admission to Chipping Sodbury School – Co-operative Foundation TrustHome addressThe child’s home address is considered to bewhere the child lives most of the time with his orher parent(s) or carer(s). South GloucestershireCouncil cannot accept an address of a business,relative, friend, childminder, a temporary addressor an address of a house it is intended to move to.The only exceptions are for children of UK servicepersonnel for whom special arrangements apply.South Gloucestershire Council reserves the rightto seek documentary evidence to support a claimof residence.Where a child spends time with each parent/carerat two different addresses, South GloucestershireCouncil will ask for proof of the arrangementsand will determine the appropriate address to beused in allocating a school place. In reachingthis decision, evidence may be requested toshow the address to which any Child Benefit ispaid and from which the child is registered witha medical GP. Any other evidence provided byparents/carers will also be considered in reachinga decision on the home address for admissionspurposes.Appeals - year 7 September intakeappealsAfter the 31 October each year (closing date forapplications), South Gloucestershire Council willsend Chipping Sodbury School Co-operativeTrust a list of all their applicants. This will includefirst, second and third preferences, but will notstate the preferences. The council will rank thelist for Chipping Sodbury School and allocate 150students.Parents/carers will be informed of the allocationof places. Included in this information will be anappeal form and an explanatory statement fromChipping Sodbury School Co-operative Trust.If parents/carers wish to appeal they need tocomplete and return the appeals form to ChippingSodbury School Co-operative Trust.An independent appeal panel will be convenedby South Gloucestershire Council at which bothparents/carers and Chipping Sodbury SchoolCo-operative Trust will represent their case.Decisions made by the panel are legally binding.In-year transfer years 7 – 11Parents/carers should apply to Chipping SodburySchool Co-operative Trust for a place at ChippingSodbury School. If the year group is full orover-subscribed Chipping Sodbury SchoolCo-operative Trust will refuse the place and theapplicant will be placed on a waiting list and giventhe opportunity to appeal. If parents/carers wishto appeal they need to complete and return theappeals form to Chipping Sodbury School CooperativeTrust. An independent appeal panel willbe convened at which both parents/carers andChipping Sodbury School Co-operative Trust willrepresent their case.Decisions made by the panel are legally binding.If a place becomes available and there areapplicants on the waiting list, the place will beoffered according to the criteria set out for Year7 September intake, and not by reference to thedate of joining the waiting list.Post 16 admissionsChildren and their parents/carers applying for post16 (sixth form) places should contact ChippingSodbury School directly. For post 16 admission:❚ Applications will be considered for admissionat the age of 16+.❚ Where the number of applications exceedsthe number of places available, and afteradmission of any students with a Statement ofSpecial Educational Needs naming the schoolor an Education, Health and Care Plan, prioritywill be given in accordance with the oversubscriptioncriteria set for admissions to theschool at 11+ years.❚ In the case of applicants in public care orpreviously in public care, the applicant mustmeet any set academic criteria.❚ Chipping Sodbury School will apply the samecriteria for admission to the sixth form for bothinternal and external transfer.❚ Under the School Admissions AppealCode there will be a right of appeal to anindependent appeal panel for unsuccessfulapplicants, both internal and external.60Apply on-line at: www.southglos.gov.uk/admissions
