<strong>Admission</strong> <strong>to</strong>Patchway Community CollegeFusion Schools TrustRationaleThe admission arrangements at PatchwayCommunity College (PCC) follow the agreedco ordinated arrangements for <strong>South</strong>Gloucestershire’s maintained <strong>secondary</strong><strong>school</strong>s. The policy complies with the statu<strong>to</strong>ryrequirements and the principles expressed in theSchool <strong>Admission</strong>s Code. PCC is supportedby <strong>South</strong> Gloucestershire Council in allocatingplaces <strong>to</strong> the college and informing families; thecouncil also co-ordinates the admissions <strong>to</strong> PCC.Purposes❚ To outline the admission arrangements for Year7 students.❚ To outline the arrangements for in yearadmissions of students directly <strong>to</strong> the college,including the post 16 student centre.❚ To support students in their admission <strong>to</strong> thecollege.❚ To ensure that all students regardless ofbackground, race or disability have fair access<strong>to</strong> the college and are supported on theiradmission <strong>to</strong> the college.Policy details<strong>Admission</strong> numberThe admission number in Years 7 <strong>to</strong> 11 at PCC iscurrently 180 in each year group.The admission criteria and arrangements (year7 admissions at the start of the college year)1. Children in Public Care*: those looked afterby a local authority within the meaning ofSection 22 of the Children Act 1989.Children Previously in Public Care*: thosewho were looked after but ceased <strong>to</strong> be sobecause they were adopted 1 (or becamesubject <strong>to</strong> a residence order 2 or specialguardianship order 3 ).* Documentation will need <strong>to</strong> be provided <strong>to</strong> <strong>South</strong>Gloucestershire Council as proof of care status.1Under the terms of the Adoption and Children Act 2002.Advice from the DfE sets out that the Adoption Act did notcome in<strong>to</strong> force until 31 December 2005 and therefore onlychildren adopted after this date qualify as Previously LookedAfter Children.2Under the terms of the Children Act 1989.3Section 14A of the Children Act 1989.2. Local siblings: children are defined as localsiblings if:❚ they are full or half brother or sister; or❚ they are adoptive brother or sister; or❚ they are children of the same household; and❚ they live within the college’s defined Area ofResponsibility; and❚ they have indicated the college as apreference; and❚ the older sibling is already in attendanceat the college and will be in attendance inSeptember 20<strong>15</strong> (statu<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>school</strong>/academyage only).Please note: <strong>to</strong> be defined as a ‘local sibling’ achild must live in the Area of Prime Responsibilityfor the college.<strong>Admission</strong> <strong>to</strong> Patchway Community College – Fusion Schools TrustShould the college be over-subscribed (i.e. ifthere are more applications than places available),initial allocations will be made according <strong>to</strong> thecriteria below. These are listed in order of priorityand will be applied <strong>to</strong> all applications for thecollege received by the published closing date forapplications:3a. Geographical considerations (for thoseliving within the college’s Area of PrimeResponsibility): Priority will be given <strong>to</strong> thosechildren who live within the Area of PrimeResponsibility for the college.If in any year there are more children livingwithin the Area of Prime Responsibility thanthe number of places available at the college,priority will be given <strong>to</strong> those children who liveclosest <strong>to</strong> the college.
