Admission to Downend School – Downend Education Trustand Castle School Education TrustPost 16 admissionsChildren and their parents/carers applying for post16 (sixth form) places should contact DownendSchool directly. For post 16 admission:❚ Applications will be considered for admissionat the age of 16+.❚ Where the number of applications exceedsthe number of places available, and afteradmission of any students with a Statement ofSpecial Educational Needs naming the schoolor an Education, Health and Care Plan, prioritywill be given in accordance with the oversubscriptioncriteria set for admissions to theschool at 11+ years.❚ In the case of applicants in public care orpreviously in public care, the applicant mustmeet any set academic criteria.❚ Downend School publishes specific minimumacademic achievement requirements foradmission to post 16 provision. These are setout in the post 16 prospectus. Admission toHanham Woods AcademyPart of the Cabot Learning FederationPurpose of the policyThe purpose of this policy is to make theadmissions process to Hanham Woods Academyclear and open.Year 7 admissionsThe academy is supported by SouthGloucestershire Council in allocating places toHanham Woods Academy and informing families.Hanham Woods Academy has an admissionnumber of 180 places in each year group fromYear 7 to Year 11.Should Hanham Woods Academy be oversubscribed(i.e. if there are more applicationsthan places available), initial allocations will bemade according to the following criteria. Theseare listed in order of priority and will be applied toall applications received by the published closingdate for applications.1. Children in Public Care or Previously inPublic Care.2. Local siblings (those living within theacademy’s Area of Prime Responsibilityand who have named the academy as apreference).3a. Geographical considerations (thoseliving within the academy’s Area of PrimeResponsibility).3b. Geographical considerations (those livingoutside the academy’s Area of PrimeResponsibility).4. Tie breaker: Where it does not provepossible to resolve allocations to anover-subscribed school/academy by theapplication of criteria 1-3, any remainingplaces will be allocated by drawing lots.Notes:1.
