<strong>Admission</strong> <strong>to</strong> The Castle School – The Castle School Education Trust<strong>Admission</strong> <strong>to</strong>The Castle SchoolThe Castle School Education TrustPurpose of the policyThe purpose of this policy is <strong>to</strong> make theadmissions process <strong>to</strong> The Castle School clearand open.Year 7 admissionsThe Trust is supported by <strong>South</strong> GloucestershireCouncil in allocating places <strong>to</strong> The Castle Schooland informing families.The Castle School has an admission number of270 places in each year group from Year 7 <strong>to</strong>Year 11.Should The Castle School be over-subscribed(i.e. if there are more applications than placesavailable), initial allocations will be madeaccording <strong>to</strong> the following criteria. These arelisted in order of priority and will be applied <strong>to</strong> allapplications received by the published closingdate for applications.1. Children in Public Care or Previously inPublic Care.2. Local siblings (those living within the<strong>school</strong>’s Area of Prime Responsibilityand who have named the <strong>school</strong> as apreference).3a. Geographical considerations (thoseliving within the <strong>school</strong>’s Area of PrimeResponsibility).Notes:1. Children in Public Care* are those lookedafter by a local authority within the meaning ofSection 22 of the Children Act 1989.❚❚❚❚Children Previously in Public Care* are thosewho were looked after, but ceased <strong>to</strong> be sobecause they were adopted 1 (or becamesubject <strong>to</strong> a residence order 2 or specialguardianship order 3 ).* Documentation will need <strong>to</strong> be provided <strong>to</strong> <strong>South</strong>Gloucestershire Council as proof of care status.1Under the terms of the Adoption and Children Act 2002. Advicefrom the DfE sets out that the Adoption Act did not come in<strong>to</strong>force until 31 December 2005 and therefore only childrenadopted after this date qualify as Previously Looked AfterChildren.2Under the terms of the Children Act 1989.3Section 14A of the Children Act 1989.2. Local siblings: children are defined as localsiblings if:they are full or half brother or sister; orthey are adoptive brother or sister; orthey are children within the <strong>school</strong>’s definedArea of Responsibility, and they haveindicated that <strong>school</strong> as a preference; andthe older sibling is already in attendanceat the <strong>school</strong> and will be in attendance inSeptember 20<strong>15</strong> (statu<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>school</strong> age only).3b. Geographical considerations (thoseliving outside the <strong>school</strong>’s Area of PrimeResponsibility).Please note: <strong>to</strong> be defined as a ‘localsibling’ a child must live in the Area of PrimeResponsibility for the <strong>school</strong>.4.
