<strong>Admission</strong> <strong>to</strong>Sir Bernard Lovell SchoolFoundation TrustPurpose of the policyThe purpose of this policy is <strong>to</strong> make theadmissions process <strong>to</strong> Sir Bernard Lovell Schoolclear and open.Year 7 admissionsThe Trust is supported by <strong>South</strong> GloucestershireCouncil in allocating places <strong>to</strong> Sir Bernard LovellSchool and informing families.Sir Bernard Lovell School has an admissionnumber of 210 places in each year group fromYear 7 <strong>to</strong> Year 11.Should Sir Bernard Lovell School be oversubscribed(i.e. if there are more applicationsthan places available), initial allocations will bemade according <strong>to</strong> the following criteria. Theseare listed in order of priority and will be applied <strong>to</strong>all applications received by the published closingdate for applications.1. Children in Public Care or Previously inPublic Care.2. Local siblings (those living within the<strong>school</strong>’s Area of Prime Responsibilityand who have named the <strong>school</strong> as apreference).3a. Geographical considerations (thoseliving within the <strong>school</strong>’s Area of PrimeResponsibility).3b. Geographical considerations (thoseliving outside the <strong>school</strong>’s Area of PrimeResponsibility).4. Tie breaker: Where it does not provepossible <strong>to</strong> resolve allocations <strong>to</strong> an oversubscribed<strong>school</strong> by the application ofcriteria 1-3, any remaining places will beallocated by drawing lots.Notes:1. Children in Public Care* are those lookedafter by a local authority within the meaning ofSection 22 of the Children Act 1989.Children Previously in Public Care* are thosewho were looked after, but ceased <strong>to</strong> be sobecause they were adopted 1 (or becamesubject <strong>to</strong> a residence order 2 or specialguardianship order 3 ).* Documentation will need <strong>to</strong> be provided <strong>to</strong> <strong>South</strong>Gloucestershire Council as proof of care status.1Under the terms of the Adoption and Children Act 2002.Advice from the DfE sets out that the Adoption Act did notcome in<strong>to</strong> force until 31 December 2005 and therefore onlychildren adopted after this date qualify as Previously LookedAfter Children.2Under the terms of the Children Act 1989.3Section 14A of the Children Act 1989.2. Local siblings: children are defined as localsiblings if:❚❚they are full or half brother or sister; orthey are adoptive brother or sister; or❚ they are children within the <strong>school</strong>’s definedArea of Responsibility, and they haveindicated that <strong>school</strong> as a preference; and❚the older sibling is already in attendanceat the <strong>school</strong> and will be in attendance inSeptember 20<strong>15</strong> (statu<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>school</strong> age only).Please note: <strong>to</strong> be defined as a ‘localsibling’ a child must live in the Area of PrimeResponsibility for the <strong>school</strong>.3a. Geographical considerations (for thoseliving within the <strong>school</strong>’s Area of PrimeResponsibility): Priority will be given <strong>to</strong> thosechildren who live within the Area of PrimeResponsibility for the <strong>school</strong>.
