WelcomeWelcomeSelecting the school you would prefer your child to attend is an important decision. Theinformation in this booklet is intended to help you in making that decision. There is a wide rangeof successful schools in South Gloucestershire. School staff, school governors and SouthGloucestershire Council’s Department for Children, Adults & Health want your child to have goodeducational opportunities. This booklet will help you to understand how the school admissionprocess works. It will also guide you to sources of further information and advice. Please takethe opportunity to read the booklet, to consider the information set out and to seek any furtheradvice you need.Please bear the following in mind:❚ Places are offered at schools in line with theirpublished admission criteria. These are set outin this booklet. It is important to consider howthese apply to your child and family.❚ The admission process has clear stages andimportant deadlines. This booklet sets out theprocess and gives guidance on how to submityour application.If you have any doubts or questions about theadmission to school process, please do nothesitate to seek further information from SouthGloucestershire Council’s Department forChildren, Adults & Health on 01454 868008.Successful education is a partnership betweenfamilies, schools and the Department for Children,Adults & Health. We wish you and your child wellin starting school and moving on in education.❚ When considering your preferred school(s),there are a number of ways in which you canobtain more information. Schools hold opendays or evenings or offer opportunities tovisit the schools. Each school publishes aprospectus (obtainable from the school) whichgives information about the school, includingresults. Many schools also have websites andthe results of school inspections can be foundon the Ofsted website.❚ Free travel assistance to school is given only incertain circumstances. It will not be given justbecause your child is attending your preferredschool.
