<strong>Admission</strong> <strong>to</strong> Bris<strong>to</strong>l Technology and Engineering Academy, University Technical Collegewill be applied in the order in which they are se<strong>to</strong>ut below:❚ Looked after children and previously lookedafter children;❚ 30% of places allocated <strong>to</strong> applicants withinArea 1 (North) which will include all postcodesin:i. BS6, BS7, BS9, BS10, BS11, BS32, BS34,BS35, BS36, BS37;ii. GL9, GL10, GL11, GL12, GL13.❚ 30% of places allocated <strong>to</strong> applicants withinArea 2 (East) which will include all postcodesin:iii. BS5, BS<strong>15</strong>, BS16, BS30, BS31;iv. BA1, BA2, BA<strong>15</strong>;v. SN13, SN14.❚ 30% of places allocated <strong>to</strong> applicants withinArea 3 (<strong>South</strong>) which will include all postcodesin:vi. BA3.❚ The remaining 10% of places will be allocated<strong>to</strong> pupils living outside the areas listed abovewith those living closest <strong>to</strong> the UTC beingadmitted.If places remain available from any of the threeareas these will be distributed equally <strong>to</strong> theremaining areas using random allocation (this willbe independently verified).DefinitionsIn determining which applicants live closest <strong>to</strong>the UTC, distances from home <strong>to</strong> <strong>school</strong> will bemeasured in a straight line between the addresspoint of the child’s home and a central point withinthe main UTC building (using the BTE Academy’scomputerised mapping system).In the event that we are unable <strong>to</strong> distinguishbetween applicants for the final available place,such as in the case of students who live in thesame block of flats, then the final place will bemade through random allocation.The home address is considered <strong>to</strong> be wherethe child lives most of the time with his or herparent(s) or carer(s). Where the child spends timewith each parent/carer equally at two differentaddresses the BTE Academy Trust will ask forproof of arrangements and will determine theappropriate address <strong>to</strong> be used when allocatinga place.Looked after children* are children who arelooked after by a local authority under the terms ofSection 22 of the Children Act 1989.Previously looked after children* are children whowere looked after, but ceased <strong>to</strong> be so becausethey were adopted 1 , or became subject <strong>to</strong> aresidence order 2 or special guardianship order 3 .* Documentation will need <strong>to</strong> be provided <strong>to</strong> <strong>South</strong> GloucestershireLA as proof of care status.1Under the terms of the Adoption and Children Act 2002. Arrangements for admitting pupils<strong>to</strong> other year groups, including <strong>to</strong>replace any pupils who have leftthe BTE AcademyWith regards <strong>to</strong> the admission arrangementsrelating <strong>to</strong> applications submitted for years otherthan the normal year of entry, the academy willconsider all such applications and if the yeargroup applied for has a place available, admit thechild. If more applications are received than thereare places available, the over-subscription criteriashall apply. Parents/carers whose application isturned down are entitled <strong>to</strong> appeal.Waiting listSubject <strong>to</strong> any provisions regarding waiting listsin <strong>South</strong> Gloucestershire Council’s co-ordinatedadmission scheme, the academy will operate awaiting list. Where in any year the BTE Academyreceives more applications for places than thereare places available, a waiting list will operate untilthe end of the Autumn term/Term 2.This will be maintained by the BTE Academyand it will be open <strong>to</strong> any parent/carer <strong>to</strong> askfor his or her child’s name <strong>to</strong> be placed on thewaiting list, following an unsuccessful application.Children’s position on the waiting list will bedetermined solely in accordance with the oversubscriptioncriteria set out above.
