I’ve been offered a <strong>school</strong> place,what next?Once you receive your offer of a <strong>school</strong> place (2 March 20<strong>15</strong>) you must respond <strong>to</strong> the offerdirectly <strong>to</strong> <strong>South</strong> Gloucestershire Council by 16 March 20<strong>15</strong>. Note: If you applied on-line youmay view the outcome of your application on-line using your password.All offers are accompanied with details explainingthe next stage of the process. Your options are asfollows:❚ accept the place offered;❚ ask <strong>South</strong> Gloucestershire Council <strong>to</strong> consideryour child for a place at your preferred<strong>school</strong>(s) if one becomes available; and/or❚ ask about the availability of places at other<strong>South</strong> Gloucestershire <strong>school</strong>s; and/or❚ appeal <strong>to</strong> an independent appeal panel againstthe decision <strong>to</strong> refuse a place at your preferred<strong>school</strong>(s).Where a response from you has not beenreceived by 16 March 20<strong>15</strong>, we will contactyou <strong>to</strong> advise you of the need <strong>to</strong> respond withinone week and point out that the place may bewithdrawn if you do not. Where a place has beenwithdrawn this will be confirmed in writing.Withdrawing offersOnce the offer of a place has been made, <strong>South</strong>Gloucestershire Council may withdraw theoffer, but only in very limited circumstances, forexample:❚ where the application was fraudulent orintentionally misleading; orWaiting lists - community andvoluntary controlled <strong>school</strong>sThe waiting list comprises those children refuseda place whose parents/carers have lodged aformal appeal or asked <strong>to</strong> go on a waiting list<strong>to</strong>gether with any late applications received.A waiting list will be maintained for any vacancieswhich occur until the end of Term 2 20<strong>15</strong> andthen discarded. It is for each admission authority<strong>to</strong> determine whether they will maintain waitinglists after the autumn term. Priority order onthe waiting list will be determined by the oversubscriptioncriteria, not by the date of joining thewaiting list.Children who are the subject of a direction bya local authority <strong>to</strong> admit or who are allocated<strong>to</strong> a <strong>school</strong> in accordance with the Fair AccessPro<strong>to</strong>col must take precedence over those on awaiting list.Where a place becomes available and the localauthority, after using all advised contact detailsis unable <strong>to</strong> contact a successful applicant fora place within two <strong>school</strong> weeks, the availableplace will be offered <strong>to</strong> the next child <strong>to</strong> qualifyfor a place.
