I’ve been offered a school place,what next?Once you receive your offer of a school place (2 March 2015) you must respond to the offerdirectly to South Gloucestershire Council by 16 March 2015. Note: If you applied on-line youmay view the outcome of your application on-line using your password.All offers are accompanied with details explainingthe next stage of the process. Your options are asfollows:❚ accept the place offered;❚ ask South Gloucestershire Council to consideryour child for a place at your preferredschool(s) if one becomes available; and/or❚ ask about the availability of places at otherSouth Gloucestershire schools; and/or❚ appeal to an independent appeal panel againstthe decision to refuse a place at your preferredschool(s).Where a response from you has not beenreceived by 16 March 2015, we will contactyou to advise you of the need to respond withinone week and point out that the place may bewithdrawn if you do not. Where a place has beenwithdrawn this will be confirmed in writing.Withdrawing offersOnce the offer of a place has been made, SouthGloucestershire Council may withdraw theoffer, but only in very limited circumstances, forexample:❚ where the application was fraudulent orintentionally misleading; orWaiting lists - community andvoluntary controlled schoolsThe waiting list comprises those children refuseda place whose parents/carers have lodged aformal appeal or asked to go on a waiting listtogether with any late applications received.A waiting list will be maintained for any vacancieswhich occur until the end of Term 2 2015 andthen discarded. It is for each admission authorityto determine whether they will maintain waitinglists after the autumn term. Priority order onthe waiting list will be determined by the oversubscriptioncriteria, not by the date of joining thewaiting list.Children who are the subject of a direction bya local authority to admit or who are allocatedto a school in accordance with the Fair AccessProtocol must take precedence over those on awaiting list.Where a place becomes available and the localauthority, after using all advised contact detailsis unable to contact a successful applicant fora place within two school weeks, the availableplace will be offered to the next child to qualifyfor a place.
