<strong>Admission</strong> <strong>to</strong>Abbeywood Community SchoolThe Olympus Academy TrustPurpose of the policyThe purpose of this policy is <strong>to</strong> make theadmissions process <strong>to</strong> Abbeywood CommunitySchool (ACS) clear and open.The Direc<strong>to</strong>rs of the Olympus Academy Trust(the Trust) have agreed that the admissionarrangements for ACS will remain in line with theagreed arrangements for <strong>South</strong> Gloucestershire’smaintained non-denominational <strong>secondary</strong><strong>school</strong>s.The Trust adheres <strong>to</strong> the statu<strong>to</strong>ry requirementsand the principles expressed in the School<strong>Admission</strong>s Code.Year 7 admissionsThe direc<strong>to</strong>rs and governors are supportedby <strong>South</strong> Gloucestershire Council in allocatingplaces <strong>to</strong> ACS and informing families. Thecouncil co-ordinates the admissions and the Trustcommissions the council’s independent appealpanel which hears appeals from parents/carerswhose child has not been allocated a place at the<strong>school</strong>.ACS has 180 places in each year group fromYear 7 <strong>to</strong> Year 11. Up <strong>to</strong> 25 of the 900 places atACS are set aside for students allocated <strong>to</strong> theResource Base by <strong>South</strong> Gloucestershire Council.The admission criteria andarrangementsShould ACS be over-subscribed (i.e. if there aremore applications than places available), initialallocations will be made according <strong>to</strong> the criteriabelow. These are listed in order of priority andwill be applied <strong>to</strong> all applications for the <strong>school</strong>received by the published closing date forapplications:2. Local siblings (those living within the<strong>school</strong>’s Area of Prime Responsibility andwho have named the <strong>school</strong> as a preference(please see Note 2 below).3a. Geographical considerations (thoseliving within the <strong>school</strong>’s Area of PrimeResponsibility) (please see Note 3a below).3b. Geographical considerations (thoseliving outside the <strong>school</strong>’s Area of PrimeResponsibility) (please see Note 3b below).4. Tie breaker: Where it does not provepossible <strong>to</strong> resolve allocations by theapplication of criteria 1-3, any remainingplaces will be allocated by drawing lots(please see Note 4 below).Notes:1.
