GV90+ gas-fired water boiler — Boiler ManualStart-up (continued)Final checks before starting boiler❏❏Review the boiler sequence of operation in Figure 75, page 65.❏❏Verify that the boiler and system are full of water and all systemcomponents are correctly set for operation.Figure 72 Check for igniter glow by looking intoobservation port on front of blowerhousing❏❏High altitude locations (over 5,500 feet) — verify that the highaltitude pressure switch is installed per page 10.❏❏Verify that condensate trap has been filled with water.❏❏Verify electrical connections are correct and securely attached.❏❏Inspect vent piping and air piping for signs of deterioration fromcorrosion, physical damage or sagging. Verify air piping and ventpiping are intact and correctly installed per this manual. To start the boiler1. Turn OFF the boiler ON/OFF switch.2. Read and follow the Operating Instructions, Figure 76, page 66.If boiler does not start correctly1. Check for loose connections, blown fuse or service switch off?2. Is external limit control (if used) open? Is boiler water temperatureabove boiler limit setting?3. Is thermostat set below room temperature?4. Is gas turned on at meter or boiler?5. Is incoming gas pressure less than 4” w.c.?6. If none of the above corrects the problem, refer to Troubleshooting, beginning on page 75.Check system and boiler after start-up❏ Check water piping1. Check system piping for leaks. If found, shut down boiler andrepair immediately. (See WARNING on page 60 regarding failureto repair leaks.)2. Vent any remaining air from system using manual vents. Air in thesystem will interfere with circulation and cause heat distributionproblems and noise.❏ Check vent piping and air piping1. Check for gas-tight seal at every connection and seam of air pipingand vent piping.Venting system must be sealed gas-tight to prevent fluegas spillage and carbon monoxide emissions which willresult in severe personal injury or death.❏ Check gas piping1. Check around the boiler for gas odor following the procedure ofpage 54 of this manual. If you discover evidence of any gas leak, shutdown the boiler at once. Find the leak sourcewith bubble test and repair immediately. Donot start boiler again until corrected. Failureto comply could result in severe personalinjury, death or substantial property damage.❏ Check the igniter1. Inspect the igniter to verify operation as shown in Figure72. The igniter glow may be difficult to see clearly, depending on room lighting.Gas valve adjustment — altitudeover 5,500 feet ONLYApply the following only when:• Altitude is over 5,500 feet above sea level.• You have obtained a high altitude kit (with tools needed)and installed high altitude air pressure switch per theinstructions on page 10.• Boiler has started correctly, following procedures onprevious pages. You will need the tools shown in Figure 73. Adjust the gasvalve outlet pressure only if required as described in thefollowing instructions.Connect and adjust manometer1. Remove boiler jacket top and front panels.2. Close manual gas supply valve and turn off electricalpower to boiler.3. Using common bit screwdriver, remove outlet pressuretap plug from gas valve and save plug (Figure 74).4. Place the negative side of the manometer hose over endof outlet pressure tap barrel.62Part number 550-142-054/1211
