Interestingly, the entry for theBridge in an 1899 directory shows it offered tram waiting rooms (Barrett 1899).6.4.7 Both pubs are of a domestic scale and style. <strong>The</strong> Georgian style Victoria is the moreattractive building with its painted quoins, entrance with impressive pilasters and archedwindows with decorative detailing. <strong>The</strong> Bridge is in a similar style with three first floor windowsand two ground floor but these are of a simple rectangular design.6.4.8 Late nineteenth century directories list only two ‘grocer and beersellers’ within thecharacter area: at 112 <strong>Burnley</strong> Road, and 16 Hapton Street.Victoria Hotel <strong>The</strong> Bridge Inn Advertisement, Barrett’s directory 1879heritage appraisal 65
