Individual departments may exceed this minimum requirement.Doctoral students should consult their advisers about additional requrrements.MASTER'S DEGREEPrograms leading to the degree <strong>of</strong> M.A. in education, M.S. in education, and M.S.in technical education are <strong>of</strong>fered.<strong>The</strong> student who expects to earn the master's degree for advancement in thefield <strong>of</strong> teaching must meet the general requirements for admission to the <strong>Graduate</strong><strong>School</strong> and must be qualified to hold a standard teaching certificate. Exceptionsto this latter requirement will be made for the qualified student who doesnot wish to teach or perform duties in the public schools provided the student presentsor acquires an appropriate background <strong>of</strong> study or experience. <strong>The</strong> studentwho expects to earn the master's degree in guidance and administration alsoshould have had successful teaching experience. A physical examination may berequired if and when indicated. Program areas include counseling, schoolpsychology, and special education. <strong>The</strong> person who meets program prerequisitesand who has earned a master's degree may matriculate as a non-degree graduatestudent and pursue a program that leads, in selected areas, to certification.<strong>The</strong> <strong>Graduate</strong> Record Examination (General Test) will be used as the qualifyingexamination in all Counseling master's programs <strong>The</strong> Millers Analogy Test will beused as the qualifying examination in all Special Education master's programs.Admissions to the master's programs will be twice a year (application deadline <strong>of</strong>March 15 for summer and fall semesters and October 1 for spring semester).<strong>The</strong> Council for Accreditation <strong>of</strong> Counseling and Related Educational Programs(CACREP), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Commission onRecognition <strong>of</strong> Postsecondary Accreditation (CORPA), has conferred accreditationon the Community, t:'1arriage and Family, and <strong>School</strong> Counseling programs.Classroom Guidance for TeachersThis course <strong>of</strong> study leads to an expanded knowledge <strong>of</strong> how guidance and counselingservices benefit students and others in public school settings. Note thatnumerous areas <strong>of</strong> concentration are available to students. This is not a certificationprogram.
