Its model does not only go along the site where it isconstructed but also carry multi function tasks where each space has function following theowner’s economic capacity, price affordability, material availability, community, technologycompetence, flexibility (separable, movable, replaceable, changeable ). The traditional houseis a monumental creation of our ancestors which has been having improvement, completion, and adaptation by times. However, there is a growing trend in the fisherman settlement tobuild modern architecture-houses (brick house/lower house) whose design is different fromthe previous type (the stilt house). Built modern-architecture house due to self-esteem andtrend, the community seemed to look down and ignore the existence of traditional housesalthough the houses were sustainable, affordable, and adjustable to need level. This study wasto find out synchronization between nature (environment), needs and economic condition atfisherman-village of Aeng Batu in South Sulawesi. Indonesia. The method used is acombination of qualitative and quantitative, where both methods were used in data collectionand data analysis. The result is clear description of traditional house as an affordable, sustainable, and need -driven creation of coastal community.37º <strong>IAHS</strong> <strong>World</strong> <strong>Congress</strong> On Housing Science 123
