Many existing examples, alreadymonitored and analyzed, can demonstrate the efficiency of automation control system.One important new application of smart technology is its use in nursing home, especiallywhen specific cognitive problems of the user have to be considered. In order to design andrealize solutions able to improve the stay and the quality of life in health care institutions, theassistive and smart technologies have a fundamental role.The CUnEdI (University Center for Intelligent Building) of the University of Trento hasdeveloped a methodology of participated interdisciplinary design using smart devices fordisabled users, specifically people with cognitive disabilities. It involves directly and activelyin almost all phases of design delegates of different fields (health, social-aid, construction,technological) in order to share the specific competences to get a global and not partial result.In this paper will be described the case study of Villa Maria nursing home, where aninnovative supervision software has been used in order to guarantee an high safety level andbetter comfort conditions to the patients. Presence sensor in order to detect the patient’smovement twenty-four hours a day, local alarm and remote touch screen in order to helpnurses monitoring simultaneously in all the building are the main safety solutions introduced.Heating and cooling system are automatically controlled and the temperature color andintensity of artificial light has been regulated in order to optimized the natural feeling of thesun light differently in each room, respecting the personal user’s sensitivity.
