With <strong>the</strong> start of <strong>the</strong> conference, <strong>the</strong> organizers have <strong>the</strong>ir hands full<br />

to ensure that <strong>the</strong> lectures, workshops and podiums run smoothly. In<br />

<strong>the</strong> process, <strong>the</strong>y have set up <strong>the</strong> usual event office on site. Despite<br />

all of <strong>the</strong> preparation, improvisation and continual crisis management<br />

are now <strong>the</strong> order of <strong>the</strong> day. People cannot find <strong>the</strong>ir rooms,<br />

<strong>the</strong>re is no change left in <strong>the</strong> cash box, one of <strong>the</strong> beamers has disappeared,<br />

and one of <strong>the</strong> lecturers has forgotten to bring <strong>the</strong> stone slabs<br />

she needs for her presentation. Since people at <strong>the</strong> conference will be<br />

speaking directly with each o<strong>the</strong>r, <strong>the</strong> computer takes a back seat as<br />

a means of communication. However, we would still like to point<br />

out a few aspects of TWiki that can be of assistance in executing<br />

your event.<br />

At first, <strong>the</strong> wiki is <strong>the</strong> central bulletin board for organizers and<br />

participants alike. The event office, for instance, can announce room<br />

changes via <strong>the</strong> wiki by projecting <strong>the</strong> program on a wall with a<br />

beamer. Participants can find out about <strong>the</strong> current event program at<br />

home or on <strong>the</strong> go. The current nature of this function makes wiki<br />

not only a publication medium, but also <strong>the</strong> central organizational<br />

medium. Any assistant can easily maintain an overview of room assignments<br />

with a corresponding EditTable plugin.<br />

Note: Remember that additional assistants – such as during check-in<br />

– should be introduced to <strong>the</strong> software in a timely manner.<br />
