Clone. In wiki terminology, <strong>the</strong> not exactly precise designation for<br />

all programs that are based on Cunningham's WikiWikiWeb.<br />

Community. The group of people who work and interact toge<strong>the</strong>r in<br />

a wiki.<br />

Content Management System (CMS). Software for <strong>the</strong> storage,<br />

administration and search for documents or content. Web-based<br />

CMSs are often used to jointly create a homepage.<br />

Copyleft. License model that guarantees <strong>the</strong> possibility of freely<br />

copying, distributing and editing a work provided that <strong>the</strong> free license<br />

is distributed along with <strong>the</strong> work.<br />

Creative Commons. Free license that regulates <strong>the</strong> use of a document<br />

at various levels. The author has <strong>the</strong> option of stipulating that<br />

his name be cited, as well as of permitting commercial use and prohibiting,<br />

allowing or generally permitting alteration if <strong>the</strong> license is<br />

observed (“share alike”). Creative Commons is thus not necessarily<br />

<strong>the</strong> same as copyleft. The license text is available in three versions: a<br />

short version for <strong>the</strong> layperson, <strong>the</strong> legally accurate long version and<br />

a machine-readable version (e.g. for search engines). This text has<br />

been translated into several languages.<br />

CSS. Cascading Style Sheet. A formalism that describes <strong>the</strong> way in<br />

which an HTML file looks. With CSS, layout and formats of a website<br />

can be centrally administered with little effort.<br />

Diff. A function in wiki that displays <strong>the</strong> differences between two �<br />

Versions of a page.<br />

Edit War. Two or more users repeatedly delete each o<strong>the</strong>r's articles<br />

from <strong>the</strong> wiki.<br />

Escape character. A character that “masks” a subsequent character.<br />

It is used to make a character that normally has a specific significance<br />

to <strong>the</strong> computer be treated as a normal character.<br />

Extreme Programming. (“XP”). Programming technique in which<br />

two people always work on <strong>the</strong> same computer and <strong>the</strong> program<br />

parts are integrated into a running test system at very short intervals.<br />
